He says it's to help farmers.

What he's doing is screwing consumers.

Campaigning in Missouri Valley, Iowa, yesterday, President Obama announced yet another government spending program -- this time designed to inflate meat prices in Midwest swing states. "Today the Department of Agriculture announced that it will buy up to $100 million worth of pork products, $50 million worth of chicken, and $20 million worth of lamb and farm-raised catfish," Obama explained to reporters in front of a drought-stricken cornfield.
"Prices are low, farmers and ranchers need help, so it makes sense," Obama explained. "It makes sense for farmers who get to sell more of their product, and it makes sense for taxpayers who will save money because we're getting food we would have bought anyway at a better price."

None of this makes sense. In fact, Obama's move only harms American consumers while protecting a corrupt federal program.

Do you really think they'll do anything other than totally waste it? There's an established protocol that illustrates how government agencies deal with food resources. Of course, the meat the fed is buying probably belongs to big agribusiness and they want to make sure their co-conspirators in supplying crappy food minimize their losses. Doesn't matter what the fed does with the meat, their buddies have gotten paid.

This is yet another illustration of why the government should get the hell out of the way of business. They have no business buying massive amounts of products to manipulate the market.

Mush of this specific instance hinges on what the meat is used for though. Obama used the statement:
“because we're getting food we would have bought anyway at a better price."
Bought anyway? If this food was needed then I can see the purchase as acceptable. Say, meat that is going to be sent to feed the troops or to other programs that are already in existence and in need of the product. I have a feeling that most of the product will simply get tossed out though. Nothing in the article that addresses what is going to happen. Not a surprise though, it has a decidedly anti-Obama tilt to it.

'This is a win-win. Farmers and ranchers will have an opportunity to sell more of their products at this critical time and taxpayers will get a better price on food that would have been purchased later,' a White House official said.

The problem isn't dropping costs, it's a shortage of feed for animals due to the drought. How in the hell do you think a shortage of product will decrease the price? That goes against everything I learned in marketing. It just doesn't jibe.

If he wanted to help them he could subsidize them like Germany does it's farmers. That way it keeps the price of goods going to market low. Instead Obama wants the price we pay at the register to go up and he's masking it in some kind of help the farmer BS.

He hates farmers anyway. Doesn't give a flying fuck about them. Now he acts like he cares what happens to them. He thinks they're all whites who hate blacks so he could really care less what happens to them.

No it's not.

Obama was asked to suspend the ethanol provision in the farm bill. 40% of all corn produced in America goes to ethanol production. He's been asked to stop producing ethanol for one year and he's refused. That means less feed for their animals and because of this they have to slaughter them, meaning the market will have a huge influx of meat. Obama's answer is to use taxpayer money to buy up some of the excess keeping the price down. Instead he's fucking us at both ends, the supplier and the consumer. The price will still go up and the farmers will still be without most of their animals.

You really need to know your topic before you start throwing around accusations.
