Cut the defense budget in half and consider problem solved.

You could eliminate the defense spending and the budgetary problems wouldn't be solved.

Spending needs to be cut accross the board. And there need to be targeted cuts in areas where the Federal Government is going beyond it's constitutional authority and in areas where the spending is worthless.
