The Taliban said on Saturday that U.S. President Barack Obama's speech to the Muslim world was full of "deceptive slogans" and did nothing to change relations between America and Muslims.

The speech, which Obama delivered at Cairo University on Thursday, "had nothing substantial in terms of content in order to reduce the dissonance that has reached its peak between Muslims and America," the Taliban leadership said in a message posted on Islamist Internet forums and translated by SITE Intelligence Group.

"His occupation and transgressing forces continue to kill, torture and arrest Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq, trample upon their deserved rights with their feet, mercilessly kill them for defending their rights and throw them in the most horrible prisons in the world," the message added.

Obama's address, lasting almost an hour, was merely the "continuation of the previous deceptive slogans of America," the message said.

The Taliban doesn't think Obamas speech has much substance. Does this make the Taliban smarter than Obamas voters?

it means you have more in common with the Taliban than I do. Congratulations.

Tough it's no surprise that, like you, they would seek to defame their greatest enemy.

Py, let's stick to the point- don't take every criticism as an attack.

First, while excellent oratory- as we have come to expect from our President, substance is either weak or counter to the intent.

Most of the counries to whom it was directed listened closely to President Obama's words with respect to the "800 pound gorilla"... Iran's nuclear plans.

Rather than make the statement that Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Afghanistan and Iraq want, ie no bomb, he told the world that they would have to live with same.

In addition, his words about his considerations and relationships with the Moslem world are belied by not bringing his wife, whose noted bare-armedness would not be allowed.

Also, his actions vis-a-vis US military preparedness, in a world where a stong US is essential, for our allies, and as a consideration for our adversaries, are strangely sterotypical of Democrats: we are the only major power decreasing military spending:
1. Due to the recession, the only expensive project the Russian government has increased funding is its military. On March 17, President Medvedev has promised to increase military spending by 26%. The Stockholm International Peach Research Institute reported that Russian arms exports were 14% higher from ’04 to ’08 than the previous five years.
2. Chinese Admiral Wu Shengli stated on April 15 that his nation would build large combat warships, next-generation aircraft, and sophisticated topedoes, and up to six aircraft carriers. Beijing has upped its military spending by 14.9 percent this year.
3. Germany will be funneling almost €500 million (US$633 million) from the second government stimulus package into the Defense Ministry. Germany’s military industries have increased their arms exports by a record 70 percent over the past five years. This means that Germany is now the third-largest arms exporter on the planet—behind only the U.S. and Russia, and German arms exports to European destinations grew by 123 percent from 2003 to 2008.
4. Washington is drastically cutting spending on some of its most vital defense programs. As part of a restructuring, the F-22 Raptor fighter jet program will be terminated, the Airborne Laser and Transformational Satellite programs will end, and the U.S. Navy will continue to shrink from the 313-ship fleet size that was set just a few years ago.
As journalist Walter Lippmann observed in 1943, the push for disarmament after World War I only proved “tragically successful in disarming the nations that believed in disarmament.
