Obama Signs Law Banning Federal Embryo Research Two Days After Signing Executive Orde

You do not have funding. Have you not been reading? The executive order directs that he be given, in 120 days, a full summary of the use for the funding. They don't have a bill, Obama didn't write a check, they have no funding and WILL NOT have, due to Dickey-Wicker amendment which was in the Omnibus spending bill which Obama just signed.

So essentially, nothing has been done.

Now, where's the private funding over the last eight years for this important, urgent work?

And YES THEY DID lie about it for eight years. The news media, Hollywood sycophants, and Dem politicians ALL said Bush banned the research. They didn't elucidate that it was only federal funding Bush banned.

Thanks at least for the honesty regarding what Bush actually banned.

They like to conveniently subject-hop, and mix and match to purposefully confuse. Same goes with partial-birth abortion. The second it's mentioned, the pro-abortion crowd goes ga-ga yammering on about women's rights and blah, blah, blah .... Completely lost in all the smoke and mirrors act of misdirection and misinformation is that partial-birth abortion and a 1st trimester abortion are not the same things.

Just as adult stem cell research and embryonic stem cell research are not the same things.
They also like to run off when confronted with truth, which they cannot deflect away from. Yer Boy DavidS is starting new threads all over the board, posting hither and yon, and adroitly avoiding this one because of the corner he painted himself into.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results. I've posted the same damn thing over and over -your feeble brain refuses to process it. I can only tell you that 2+2=4 and not 200 so many times.

I'll put this in terms you can understand - Bush banned federal funding of new embryonic stem cell research. There were only 20 or so lines to research. Now there can be hundreds if not thousands of lines to work with.

Obama lifted the ban. Obama banned federal funding for embryonic stem cell research that results in the destruction of embryos. There are methods, as I've posted the link to, to harvest stem cells without destroying the embryo.

As far as a list of stem cell research charities and their donations - you can google it. stem cell charity - Google Search

I have no idea how many billions have been donated over the past 8 years. You cited Michael J Fox, who does indeed have a foundation for Parkinson's research and a cure. The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research Again, you'll have to do the research if you want to know if his foundation donates any money for embryonic stem cell research.

And finally you ask "Why can't private people donate money to fund this and leave the government out of it?"

Would you ask the same thing about cancer research? Are you against the government funding cancer research? What about AIDS and other STDs? What about diabetes research? The federal government spends tens if not hundreds of billions of dollars a year on disease and medical research. This is much more than any of the biggest charities could ever even dream of coming up with. We wouldn't be anywhere on disease research today with JUST private money.

David what you have produced is basically in error. We understood it just fine. You simply and as per usual are wrong.

Maurauder, come again???

You are not paying attention. There is NO federal funding for any type of ESCR at this time. They will need an appropriations bill for it. They will have to craft it, debate it, pass it in the house and senate and have Obama sign it. This is what I am trying to get through your thick skull.

NOTHING has been done yet except idle talk. You're celebrating over a dog and pony show.

And the question was, why wasn't this made a huge issue for PRIVATE funding over the last eight years? Where's the TV commercials, the Hollywood endorsements, the NASCAR sponsorships, all that rot? Of course there are entities taking donations for this and that, but where's the ones strictly for ESCR

And finally you ask "Why can't private people donate money to fund this and leave the government out of it?
No, I did not ask that. Which proves, again, you're not reading what I post. And proves you're essentially a moron.

Please. There is nothing wonderful about flushing tens of billions of dollars down the toilet. Might as well just give this money to a bank to reinvest in China like the rest.

Embryonic stem cell research has led to nothing since 1981
.
Certain people have a hard time understanding that simple concept.
Adult stem cell's have proven to be effective in many medical treatments. I personally was involved in donating adult stem cells at Fred Hutchinson hospital in Seattle because my tissue typing was an extremely close match to a leukemia patient. No, that doesn't make me an expert in the field, but I'm betting it makes me more informed than most people.

Jesus fucking Christ, this is why I can't talk to you! All I said was that Obama lifted the fucking ban! What part of that can your stupid ass not fucking understand? Are you retarded? Are you? You're a fucking moron that's what you are.

Obama lifted the ban that George Bush put in place!!! Goddamn you're one annoying cocksucker.

Who gives a shit? There were charities - I gave you a list of them. You want to know why they didn't do better marketing - go give them a fucking call.

Hey, look Mickey... the sky is really green and we elected a KKK President!!! It's completely ridiculous to believe that, but hey you believe whatever the fucking hell you want to and pay no fucking attention to reality so why the fuck should i care you fucking bitch. stop being an asshole

i know that will be hard for you because it seems like its all you know

You misunderstand. It was never banned, this is a Democrat talking point.

Adult stem cell research was not banned. Enbryonic stem cell research was. Now it is not banned but it will not be funded. I don't much care about the Dems since I stand firmly in the socialist corner.

Neither research was banned. Federal funding was banned.

Well, I think we've conclusively proven that liberals believe if the government doesn't do something, it simply doesn't happen at all.

Everyone else reading this thread, stupid fuck, realizes you are wrong, most have said so and now you are lying on top of it. You tried ignoring what I said, that didn't work so you tried mis-characterizing what I said, that didn't work so now you're lying about what you said. Why don't you just give it up?

There is NO FEDERAL FUNDING for ESCR! Still! I kept telling you that, and you kept coming back saying I was wrong. Clearly I am not. Idiot.

On to other matters: You do of course realize that ESCR is pretty much obsolete now, right? Because it was, and is, BAD science! THIS is what I was driving at -- Hollywood sycophants KNOW this, KNOW Dr. Huang's work was bogus, therefore WON'T give any of their own money for ESCR!

What happened, besides the fraud Dr. Huang being exposed? The laboratory equivalent of the airplane did! It's called "induced pluripotent stem cells" (iPS) which are stem cells which can be produced from any skin cell by injecting genes that force it to revert to its primitive "blank slate" form with all of the same pluripotent capabilities of embryonic stem cells. And iPS never would have been discovered or worked on if Bush hadn't banned additional federal funding for ESCR. Because they would never have had any reason to TRY it! Necessity became the mother of invention!

The insistence on using embryonic stem cells always rested on the argument that they were the only ones which were pluripotent, e.g. capable of becoming any kind of cell. Well, this hasn't been true for at least three years! So, the whole thing is now, and has always been, a LIE. Just something for people to demagogue and demonize Bush for, when really they should be hailing him for his vision in shutting funding off for this hoax!

Dr. Ian Wilmut, the guy who cloned "Dolly" the sheep, said it best when he abandoned his license to attempt human cloning due to iPS: "Researchers may have already achieved what no politicians could - an end to the embryonic stem cell debate." Several days ago, Dr. Bernadine Healy wrote a column in US News and World Report, confirming that embryonic stem cells are obsolete!

So idiot sticks like you are celebrating NOTHING. You're too stupid to realize you've been HAD, again! Obama did NOTHING but satisfy morons when he signed that executive order. It was just a dog and pony show and you're among the absolutely clueless morons it pleased!

If the public, Joe Taxpayer, is going to fund any type of stem cell research, it should be iPS NOT the obsolete ESCR.

Why Embryonic Stem Cells Are Obsolete
March 04, 2009 11:52 AM ET | Healy, Bernadine, M.D. | Permanent Link

Embryonic stem cells. Scientists may be growing impatient, but President Obama has been rightly taking his time in addressing a campaign promise to lift the ban on federal funding for research using new lines of stem cells to be taken from human embryos. Even for strong backers of embryonic stem cell research, the decision is no longer as self-evident as it was, because there is markedly diminished need for expanding these cell lines for either patient therapy or basic research. In fact, during the first six weeks of Obama's term, several events reinforced the notion that embryonic stem cells, once thought to hold the cure for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and diabetes, are obsolete. The most sobering: a report from Israel published in PLoS Medicine in late February that shows embryonic stem cells injected into patients can cause disabling if not deadly tumors.

The report describes a young boy with a fatal neuromuscular disease called ataxia telangiectasia, who was treated with embryonic stem cells. Within four years, he developed headaches and was found to have multiple tumors in his brain and spinal cord that genetically matched the female embryos used in his therapy.

Thanks, this is the article I referred to in my last post. Obama however didn't take his time, he missed a fabulous opportunity to hail new advances such as iPS. Clearly satisfying the drones was his goal, because he and all the scientists in attendance knew Huang's work was fraudulent, and ESCR was obsolete anyway. Only idiots like DavidS didn't know this.

Instead of taking the opportunity to advance science, he took the opportunity to continue a lie and take yet another, lying cheap shot at his predecessor, just to satisfy mindless drones like DavidS. Were he honest and classy, he could have said something like this:

President Obama said:
"Today, I lift the ban on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. This does not give any money, it merely makes it possible to get funding in the future. President Bush's ban advanced science, by making necessity the mother of invention, and in recent years science delivered with fantastic new advances that make ESCR virtually obsolete. So with that in mind, this order requires the HHS in 120 days, to send me a viability report and a summary of what funds will be needed and what they will be used for." (This is actually all the executive order does, read it.)
