President Barack Obama on Wednesday made fun of foes who promise "three-point plans for two dollar gas," aiming to deflect election year attacks sparked by rising gas prices.

"This is not the first time we've seen gas prices spike," Obama said, as drivers face pump prices averaging $3.80 a gallon across the country.

"The next time you hear some politician trotting out some three-point plan for $2 gas -- you let them know we know better," Obama told a supportive crowd.

"Tell them we're tired of hearing phony election-year promises that never come about."

:muahaha:

Barry, get a clue. If it weren't for phoney election-year promises you'd have nothing to say.....ever.

But it seems like Obama is saying we might as well forget about $2/gal gas......at least as long as he's president.

It is rather similar to Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) telling us that President Bush adding four trillion dollars to the national debt all by his lonesome was irresponsible and unpatriotic. From the Pirate’s Cove:

Obama To Blame Others For Rising Gas Prices Thursday

By William Teach February 22, 2012 – 5:38 pm

While attempting to toot his own horn:

(Bloomberg) President Barack Obama will try to head off the political impact of rising gasoline prices as Republicans vow to make the price at the pump an issue in the 2012 election campaign.

Obama plans events this week focusing on his administration’s efforts to expand domestic exploration and development of alternative energy sources to combat cyclical spikes in gas prices.

He’s going to blame China, Iran, speculators, people who fail yo properly inflate their tires and get tune ups, anybody but himself.

The White House press secretary, Jay Carney, came to his daily press briefing armed with statistics about domestic exploration and said Obama favors various forms of energy, including higher fuel-efficiency standards, nuclear reactor development and alternative energy research.

He will discuss the steps his administration has taken to increase domestic production of oil and natural gas, raise fuel efficiency standards and promote new construction of nuclear facilities, officials said.

How’s that worked so far? Much like the unemployment rate, the US has had sustained high gas and energy prices throughout Obama’s time as emperor, er, president. And the rates continue to rise.

This will be a purely political speech, one in which Obama ducks all responsibility, and one in which he provides no true solutions. The phrase you’ll be hearing in your head is “suck it up, buttercup. Buy a Volt.” Because energy just magically appears from unicorn farts in Obama World. And one in which the taxpayers pay for his gas for the 17 car motorcades and unnecessary fossil fueled flights to campaign events and vacation spots.

Bloomberg’s reporting is unsurprising: President Truman’s famous desk sign is nowhere to be found in the Oval Office these days! But it’s just one more piece of the Obama puzzle, telling us how the very things for which he criticized President Bush are somehow, some way not his responsibility now that he has the big job.

If President Obama had a strong record, he could, and would, tell the truth about it, and his re-election would not be in doubt. That he’s pointing fingers at everybody else, that he’s trying to misdirect your view, tells you everything you really need to know about this President: he knows, himself, that he has not been a success. Now he's gonna try to convince us he's doing everything in his power to control it.....but it is a hopeless cause........just deal with it.

Yes or no.

Domestic production at the present time is greater then when George W. Bush was President?

It's a binary questions. A simple yes or no..will do.

He's right. Speculators, OPEC and the political environment in places like Iran, determine gas prices. I've also heard that we have cheaper gas than Europe does because we give subsidies to big oil. US production isn't the determining factor either. US production has increased significantly under the Obama administration.

Is increasing domestic production the only way to control the price?

No.

If Domestic production is up, how much is it up? And because the oil we produce isn't all sold here but on the world market that isn't going to help. You have to make it worthwhile for oil companies to sell more of their product here......but then that would be tax-cuts for the rich wouldn't it??

Yes it is greater then Bush.

NOW simple question:
WHO opened more Federal Land to development that has CREATED more production?
Simply binary question BUSH or Obama?

Simple binary question..
WHICH President's EPA shut down more refineries(See St. Croix 350,000 barrels/day)
shut down Shell's $4 billion Alaska drilling because it MIGHT hurt 240 eskimos 70 miles away!!
BUSH or Obama Again which one said
So, if somebody wants to build a coal[electric utility] plant, they can it’s just that it will bankrupt them,!"

Simply binary questions!!!

One thing everyone is ignoring is during an emergency you have to be able to run the economy off of what you can get at when everyone else cuts us off. At least make an effort to assure that in the worst case scenario you will have a safe source of energy.

Obama seems to do everything to prevent that ether by design or whatever. He is trying to boost the price of gas so alternative energy will be more affordable in comparison. The side-effect of that is we are worse off if our present sources were to be cut off.

mud, I guess you will be voting for the eye of Newt. He has claimed he will be bringing back 2 dollar a gallon gas.

How will he do that? Do you know?

And have you seen the FOX tape where the wonderful hosts were defending George Bush when gas prices were so high. They claim, on air for all to see if they look, that Presidents have no control over gas prices. Unless the Presidents name is Obama.

So which is it. Control or no control, according to FOX?

And I am sure with your no bias opinions that you prolly don't watch FOX or listen to Rush, so if you can't answer I understand. Maybe someone eles will know. Gotta be a few FOX viewers on here.

Obama is correct.

Those on the right who expect to get $2 gas back are either delusional, lying or stupid.
Or perhaps all 3?

Those are the facts folks.

I know how Newt will bring back 2. a gal gas.

He will cripple the economy to the point there is virtually no economic growth and consequesntly no growing demand for oil and lo and behold the price of gas will come down.

Just like it did when it became apparent that George Bush had crippled the economy.

No wait, Newt is gonna flood the worlds energy markets with overwhelming supplies of cheap American crude. And all the oil companies will sell it dirt cheap to Americans. Hell, under newt, the oil companies will be sending Americans rebate checks from the oil companies.

If onlyt Newt could get elected.

It's a free market. If oil producers get a better price elsewhere..then that's where they go. Now if you want the government to be in charge of domestic gas prices..that's another argument entirely.

No problem though..Obama's role in the price spike is hostilities in Iran. If you think he should back down..say so.

Or maybe Mittens has a plan.

He is keeping it close to his chest.

Mittens plan is to do a leveraged takeover of Shell. Using Bain Capital. Then he will sell off all oil leases to the highest bidder. Then he will allow the highest bidder to rape and pillage the American economy all so his buddies can make billions and pay capital gains tax rates on W2 income. All the while reducing income tax rates for oil companies to zero while giving the oil companies billions of tax refund dollars. Cause they earned them.

Now that is an energy plan Repubs can get behind.

U.S. oil production is in fact on the uptick. But it's no thanks to Obama.
Leasing, permitting, and production are all down on public lands and in public waters.
Private lands activity has surged due in part to higher crude prices, but primarily because of new frontiers such as the Bakken play as well as new technologies like hydro fracking.

This requires massive investment which has its origins in... private capital. And the folks who have reversed this decline in domestic oil and gas production are the Independents- not the Majors such as Exxon or BP. Independents drill 95% of the wells in this country both onshore and offshore.

I just got back from 2-1/2 days in D.C.
Yup- "on the Hill".

Here's the pitch- higher oil and gasoline prices are playing into Obama's plan of hitting industry with massive taxes in order to fund his "Green" initiatives. At the same time he is telling Congress "you are either with the oil companies, or you are with the American people". It's a set-up pure and simple.

Our last call of the trip was to Jesse Jackson Jr.'s office and we fully expected to be shuffled to his legislative aid. We were shocked to walk in and find him waiting on us at his conference table.

The first words out of his mouth... "Well, it must be a great time to be in the oil business."
To which I replied "you know, we're one of the very few industries in this country with a Help Wanted sign on the window".

I do dislike the little prick, but I've got to give him credit for listening, engaging, asking questions, and being genuinely interested in what we had to say.

Regarding the OP, gasoline could very well be $2.00/gallon by this time next year. Hell, it could hit $2.00 in six months and you'd be hard-pressed to argue against it.

Now if you want the government to be in charge of domestic gas prices..that's another argument entirely.

What I have heard repeatedly is the our energy supply is of critical nationl importance. If this is fact, then why in the hell would we sell our dwindling supply of crude to other investors anywhere in the world? Sell our national treasure to the highest world wide bidder.

Oh I know. It's capitalism. And those companies have a god given right to drill our oil and sell it back to us at prices that reflect the world market prices. Even though it is Americas oil.

Yea I could see where the governmnet needs to take over the oil industry in America. I mean it is of critical nationl importance. Right? And the oil companies are only loyal to profit and the bottom line. The oil companies could give a shit less where they sell our oil.

Nothing like cutting your own throat.

Of course obama says to forget about $2.00 a gallon gas. He's never going to allow it to happen. He's transforming the country into using inefficient, ineffective and very dangerous green energy no matter how much of a failure it is.

If our national energy issues were truly thought of as of national importance?

The USA would control the marekts of oil and gas in this nation.

It doesn't, so lets just stop kidding ourselves that our POTUSs have any control over the daily prices, shall we?

Are you forgetting that we import 9 million barrels of oil each day?
By controlling oil and gas markets in this nation, you'd propose artificially suppressing prices while we import crude and products at much higher prices??
That would lead to our refineries selling product at below cost.
Not cool.

Obama was visiting a Freightliner Truck plant near here yesterday. BTW his motorcade tied up traffic for hours inconveniencing a couple hndred thousand commuters.
The whole thing was a typical Obama photo opp. Most of the workers were given the day off with pay. The audience was a small group of carefully selected employees who no doubt expressed their undying support of the Messiah.
Anyway, instead of talking about jobs, Obama spent 30 mins talking about how we cannot drill our way out f high gas prices, that we need to get off our "fuel technology of yesterday" and "learn to use less gasoline"....
I never thought I'd ever say this about a sitting president, but I am beginning to despise Obama. Nearly everything this man says and does is all about himself and damages the country.
BTW Obama spent very little time talking about jobs. This truck plant received an increase in orders recently. 1,200 people were hired
Now if Obama continues down this path of high energy prices which, as we have seen, damage the economy. With a slowing economy, plants such as this one would have to lay off workers.
No wonder Obama no longer talks about jobs.

Michele Bachmann PROMISED us $2 gas

We should have voted for her
