I think the main problem stems from the fact that Democrats claim to believe in government spending, especially during recessions in order to prevent deflationary spirals. Whereas the Right claims the opposite. However, if you look at the spending that occurred during the six years that the GOP had all three levers of power, you see a completely different story.

The top ten spending years - across three different Presidential administrations -- have been Republican years in the White House; seven of them were with Republican Senates. This is on the public record. Hannity doesn't talk about it, which means you probably don't believe it.

The GOP has done a great job labeling the Dems as big spenders, but nothing changes the fact that Reagan and Bush were spending nightmares. When Republicans are in charge of the White House, they tend to take credit for the good things, while blaming the bad things on the democrats. They are masters at dodging accountability. Bush's "ownership society" destroyed the country. It was a sinister plan to stimulate a dead economy with fake housing wealth. It failed and America died. Was the left responsible too? Of course. But Bush was in the White House -- and we all know that the GOP never takes responsibility for things that happen when they are in control.
