One legacy of the Obama Administration is the massive amount of land seized by the Federal Government declaring them a monument. How much did he claim compared to other Presidents. Let's take a look.

Should the President of the United States be able to designate Monuments without approval from Congress and/or the people?

What Is the Antiquities Act and Why Does President Trump Want to Change It?

President Trump on Wednesday ordered the Interior Department to review the size and scope of national monuments larger than 100,000 acres created since 1996. He wants recommendations on whether any of those large tracts should be scaled back by presidential authority or by Congress.

Mr. Trump, signing the order at the Interior Department, described the designations as a “massive federal land grab” and ordered the agency to review and reverse some of them.

“It’s time to end these abuses and return control to the people, the people of Utah, the people of all of the states, the people of the United States,” the president said.

National monuments are designated by presidents under a century-old law called the Antiquities Act. What does the law do, what changes in it does President Trump want and what lands might be affected?

Is it time to change an over Century old law? If a Monument is designated in this country..............shouldn't the people have a voice in it..............instead of just one.

It's way past time that this law ENDS.

No land has been seized. This is a bullsyte thread if ever there was one. All the lands the OP is alleging to have been seized were already public lands owned by the citizens of the US via the US Government. The use and designation of the lands were changed to save them from exploitation and destruction.
Trump told another one of his lies when he called designating already US owned public lands as monuments a "land grab".

Texas Landowners Sue BLM Over Land Seizure On Red River - Law360

Law360, Dallas (November 17, 2015, 5:03 PM EST) -- The Bureau of Land Management on Monday was hit with a federal suit in Texas by seven landowners, three county governments and one county sheriff claiming that the federal government has unlawfully seized thousands of acres of private property along the Red River.
The suit alleges that the BLM has violated the constitutional rights of Texas landowners with property along the river by asserting that federal land boundaries extend well past the riverbed into Texas and, in some instances, more than a mile outside of actual federal territory.

“It’s time to end these abuses and return control to the people, the people of Utah, the people of all of the states, the people of the United States,” the president said..

Another lie to misguide the public. The lands in question in Utah were never under the control of the state of Utah. The lands have always been under the complete ownership, maintenance and protection of the federal government

You are ok with 1 MAN having the ability to designate land as Monuments.........Which part of 1 man declaring this much land as monuments don't you understand.

I stand by that NO 1 MAN SHOULD HAVE THIS POWER. PERIOD. And that the 1906 law needs to be SHREDDED.

This has nothing to do with the topic of your thread. It has nothing to do with designating public lands as national monuments.

You should be able to promote your political ideas on this topic without relying on lies and misinformation. Designating lands as National Monuments rescues them from exploitation from extraction industries and preserves them for future generations to enjoy as natural wonders and non-invasive uses that give long term uses to the public instead of short term profits and permission to destroy the long term benefits to short term profits for a select few.

BS. That is a matter of opinion and I restate that 1 MAN SHOULD NOT HAVE THAT POWER. PERIOD.

If these designations are worth their salt then having these designated as monuments should easily be RATIFIED by the Senate and the House.

If they are not............then they shouldn't be designated.

Once again, nothing to do with National Monuments. You are just promoting a common generic discussion about how public lands impact private ownership and exploitation of public lands.

How is reserving the people's land for the people a land grab?

Trumpflakes normally make no sense, but here they're acting even crazier than they usually do. Preventing private companies from grabbing public land is the direct opposite of a land grab.

The law of designating National Monuments is ratified by the House and the Senate. It has been a law passed and endorsed by the Congress and support by the court for over 110 years. Public owneship of land has been a mainstay of America since the first day America became America. Revolutionary War soldiers were often paid with grants of publicly owned land. Some lands were purchased with cash by the US Government such as the Louisiana Purchase and Alaska. Other lands were gained through battle and war, treasure and blood. The promotion of giving that all away to profiteers should be based on more than lies and misinformation.

Congressman Paul Gosar - Antiquities Act Executive Order: An Opportunity to End a Monumental Abuse of Government Power

Over the last 20 years, presidents from both sides of the aisle have used the stroke of a pen to lock up hundreds of millions of acres using the Antiquities Act, but none more egregiously than President Obama. In 2014, then-President Obama said, “I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone. And that’s all I need.” This braggadocious one-liner was the basis for devastating monument designations by the Obama administration. President Trump’s recent Executive Order directs Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke to review national monuments created by the Antiquities Act since 1996 that exceed 100,000 acres and to coordinate with local stakeholders. These communities that were shut up and shut out of the charade of discussions surrounding national monument designations deserve a voice.

Over the past century, presidents have utilized the Act a total of 233 times to designate roughly 840 million acres of land and water as national monuments. This staggering figure is in addition to a massive federal estate that now exceeds 635 million acres. President Obama’s unprecedented abuse of the Act locked-up an astonishing 553,599,880 acres, or 66% of all land and water designated as a national monument under this century old law. No one in their right mind could possibly believe that 553 million acres is the “smallest area compatible” for these new monuments.

It is done by executive order. Show me how it is ratified by the House and Senate other than using justification of a Century old law. In regards to only used on Federal Lands currently owned. You would be correct. But by designating massive amounts of land as Monuments, it guarantees that no leases for business or industrial production can be used on this land.

In regards to private ownership of land. The BLM has been hosing over citizens for decades to take land.

I again state.............NO 1 MAN SHOULD HAVE THIS AUTHORITY.

Specious Endangerment: Obama Awards Spotted Owls 9.6 Million Acres

The Obama administration took advantage of the Thanksgiving weekend to give an early Christmas present to its “green” constituency: 9.6 million acres across the states of Washington, Oregon, and California. The ostensible recipient of this Black Friday gift is the Northern Spotted Owl, the raptor that has enraptured environmental activists and enraged loggers, ranchers, landowners, and rural towns that have been economically devastated by the “threatened” designation affixed to the bird by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). However, the real beneficiaries of the huge new lock-up of federal and state lands are not the iconic feathered mascots but the gold-plated activist organizations that lobbied, sued, and besieged the federal government to increase the protected spotted owl habitat from the already enormous 5.3 million acres designated by the Bush administration in 2008. Among those organizations are the American Bird Conservancy, the Center for Biological Diversity, EarthJustice, and the Sierra Club.
