Look over my posts. I don't think Obama is a sure thing in 2012. With a weak economy he will probably lose, with a strong economy a centrist GOP like Romney or Daniels will probably beat him.

I'm just pointing out that a hostile congress has never meant 100% chance if defeat. Reagan was reelected, as was Clinton with a hostile Congress.

I still think that if the regulations proposed are not overly draconian, it likely won't hurt him. The NRA was never going to support him regardless.

I don't think that Obama could get a serious gun control bill passed, even if that's what he wanted to do.

The most he could do is some watered down useless bill like the Brady Bill - and that would be a huge victory for him, and definitely get him points towards his re-election.

What I don't understand is the gun lobbyists apparent opposition to any sort of control.
I would have thought it would be in their best interest to take control of the debate and make proposals to protect responsible gun owners (read; citizens) from criminals and lunatics.

Looser gun control = decrease in violent crime in that area


Thats well documented. The most violent, dangerous areas in the country are prisons. They have zero guns. The most heavily armed buildings outside military/police are gun stores. Rarely, if ever, do you hear of a gun store getting robbed or violent crime inside them.

Lefties are simply wrong on this. Utah has amongt the loosest gun laws. And enjoy one of the lowest crime rates. Cali, Illinois, NJ, NY have among the strictest gun laws. And see the most violence. Hmmmm
