Obama interview with Charlie Gibson where he not only comments on the attacks by McCain/Palin but also answers the Ayers question quite nicely. :clap2:

Poor Sarah.

That was quite a contrast to poor Sarah's interview with Gibson.

Sarah just doesn't have the knowledge to answer open questions at the level you would expect a VP to be able to.

Good post but don't expect the wingnuts to listen, moonies go through heavy indoctrination so thoughts never come to them.

"The elite, the most powerful, influential, and wealthy individuals among us, have essentially succeeded in creating the most important element in sustaining their perpetual control: eternally loyal, anti-thinking, slave-followers, fundamentally hostile to any kind of meaningful thought, perhaps as much as eighty percent of the world's population. For the purposes of keeping this article short enough for publication, my comments here are limited to Americans."

The original unedited Obama/Gibson interview:

Obama: It's outrageous we are in this position to begin with.

Gibson: True but every major media outlet says that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were at least partially if not majorly responsible for the mess and that the Bush Administration and even your opponent John McCain sounded the alarm bells more than two years ago while you remained silent and your Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate actively blocked attempts to reform Fannie and Freddie.

Obama: But Charlie can we really afford four more years of the Bush/McCain economic policies that got us out of recession in 2000, helped us get through 9/11, the tech stock bubble bursting and had the economy roaring until Democrats took over Congress in 2006?

Gibson: Well there is certainly blame to go around but would you admit that here was a time where you could have gone against your party, reached acrosss the aisle and joined with John McCain to get meaningful reform of Fannie and Freddie passed?

Obama: It seems a bit racist to suggest I wouldn't work with an erratic Senator like John McCain.

Gibson: Isn't it also true that you were the second biggest recepient of Fannie and Freddie donations?

Obama: These kind of distracting questions are what is wrong with our political process.

Gibson: OK, onto another subject: William Ayers.

Obama: Who?

Gibson: William Ayers, the reformed domestic terrorist who has become a champion of education across America.

Obama: Oh, you mean that guy in my neighborhood?

Gibson: Yes.

Obama: He's got a really cool living room.

Gibson: I know. I really like the pipe bomb sculpture by the fireplace. Very post modern. Anyway, is it fair that the American people know what the relationship was between you and Ayers when you distributed over 100 million dollars on behalf of Ayers to local Chicago organizations including to Rev. Wright?

Obama: Rev. Wright is like an uncle to me. I could no more throw him under the bus than I could keep Michelle away from the press and media, locked up at home for the past three months.

Gibson: Speaking of homes. Let's talk about Rezko.

Obama: Let's not.

hope you didnt spend too much time on that

I couldn't hear the video... Did he say he and Ayers were not friends? Also is this the same interview he takes credit for the bailout? Even though the bailout hasn't done squat yet?

you'll need to provide a video of this unedited version paperboy.... otherwise I suspect this belongs in the pure crap portion of the board.

no KMAN he doesn't say they weren't friends.

here is what he said transcribed from the video for those who don't want to watch til the end

Why don't we just clear it up right now. i'll repeat again what I've said many times. This is a guy who engaged in some dispicable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8 years old. By the time I met him 10 or 15 years ago he was a college professor at the University of IL. We served on a school reform board together, a board by the way that was founded by Walter Annenberg, an ambassador and close friend of Ronald Reagan's. So I have talked to him about school reform issues and the notion that somehow he has been involved in my campaign, that he has been an advisor of mine, I've palled around with a terrorist, all this statements are made simply to score cheap political points.

is there evidence that they were "friends" or they just "friendly"? I'm friendly with many people but I wouldn't call them friends of mine.

Any reporter worth his salt would have followed up like this:

Gibson: No one has suggested you supported his terrorist activities from the 1960s but many are concerned that you worked closely with Ayers to disburse over 100 million to left leaning educational projects around Chicago including one run by Ayers himself and another run by Rev. Wright. So let's clear this up for the American people. Is the figure of 100 million dollars accurate?

Obama: Blah, blah, blah.

Gibson: Was one of those organizations that received money run by Ayers himself?

Obama: Blah, blah, blah.

Gibson: Did Rev Wright also receive money?

Obama: Blah, blah, blah

Gibson: Now I understand you launched your first campaign for elective office from Ayer's living room. Correct?

Obama: Yes, but I didn't know who he was.

Gibson: But you had worked with him to disburse over 100 million dolaars over a 5 year period. How is that possible?

Obama: Obama: Blah, blah, blah

It seems to me that the issue with William Ayer's is one that has more to do with his beliefs when it comes to his vision for school reform. William Ayer's is a believer that children should be "indoctrinated" into a communist style socialist learning agenda. It would seem that if Obama and Ayer's spoke on educational issues together then then real question is not are you and Ayer's buddies, that strikes me as the kind of question s show like TMZ would ask. Rather, the questions that should be asked here, is does Obama believe in the Ayer's model for childhood education? and if does not why then is he talking to him about educational issues? It seems like a valid question to me. I find it striking that John McCain's campaign has spent all this effort spinning their wheels on the relationship, which to me reflects a lack of depth to probe for the right questions. One can ask a question and not impune a persons personal charcter IMO. I do think though that Obama could easily put this to bed as an issue if he did not issue the "pat answer" of I was 8 and Just say, I know of the man, I met the man, he's a radical, and I don't believe in ANYTHING he does. Seems simple enough to me.
