Obama insults Switzerland

Lol.

Awesome.

No worries. Obama will be over there kissing ass soon. Oh wait, Switzerland is a white country. No he won't.

I wonder what the Swiss did to Obama. Oh right, election to be won, watch out anyone for passing buses.

Umm I thought one of Switzerlands largest business attractions was that they provided tax havens??

Why should they get offended?

Switzerland hit back Tuesday at a US presidential election campaign video that portrays the country as a tax haven.

In the video, a character named Miss Swiss Bank Account describes the Republican candidate Mitt Romney as a "boss millionaire with accounts everywhere", the ATS news agency reported.

Considering the fact that Swiss banks held onto money belonging to Holocaust victims for many years, who gives a shit what they think? Oh wait....Romney does, because that is where he stashes his money too....

Why does the left-wing (both in America and Europe) rarely mentions Switzerland as a good example?

Let's see:

The top federal tax rates on corporate and personal income are 8.5% and 11.5%. No capital gains tax. In late 2010 the Swiss voted in referendum against a top federal income tax rate of 22%.

The effective individual tax rate is subject to considerable variation depending on the canton and municipality of residence (see Canton of Zug). The Social Democratic Party (19% of national votes) wants higher federal tax rates and more federal regulations in order to prevent too much competition between local administrations.

They have a multipartisan federal government, rotating in one-year terms. Local politicians are usually more widely known than the national ones.

A VAT of 8% on most commercial exchanges of goods and services. In the European Union the VAT ranges from 15% in Luxembourg to 25% in Sweden and Denmark and 27% in Hungary.

Even if the wealthiest 10% households only pay 21% of all taxes (versus 30% in the European Union and 45% in the USA) the level of inequality in Switzerland is not high.

Tough immigration policies and zero tolerance for illegality. You must be a permanent resident in Switzerland for at least 12 years to apply for citizenship, which is granted not by the federal government but by cantons. Employers must give preference to european workers over non-european unskilled workers. Foreigners convicted of serious crimes are automatically deported. And they recently approved a cap on immigration from certain eastern european countries.

Universal health coverage through mandatory private insurance, with no public option. Very different to single payer systems working in almost all Europe (except the Netherlands), but similar to Obamacare. The Swiss have not a national social security system (in 2007 they voted against it).

A strong gun culture. Besides the militia, compulsory military service and the semi-automatic weapon that every adult male owns, there are millions of hunting rifles and more than 200,000 people attend annual shooting competitions.

Only banking and low taxes? Swiss goods exports are worth 230 billion euros: a larger exporter than similar-sized Austria and Sweden. Almost 99% of Swiss companies are small.

Employment rate: 78% (versus 64% in the European Union and 67% in USA). Unemployment rate: 3.5% (versus 10.5% in the European Union and 7.7% in USA)

Etc, etc.

And a Constitution heavily influenced by the US Constitution

Their self-identified left-wing parties only combine 27% of the votes (stronger in french-speaking cantons):

- Free Democrats: classic liberalism, pro-responsability
- Christian Democrats: typical fiscal moderate and social conservative european christian party
- Social Democrats: democratic socialism, left-wing
- Greens: left-wing ecologists
- Green Liberals: centrist pro-market ecologists
- Conservative Democrats: a moderate split from the Swiss People's Party

Well when the election was going on you fuckers claimed it was the Cayman Islands. Keep you lies straight. If you didn't lie it would be easier to keep it straight.

Do Swiss banks not help people hide their money?

Wow, that's odd, since the words "Swiss Bank Account" have been synonymous with "Tax Haven" and "Money Laundering" for as long as I can remember.

Was it my imagination that UBS has been involved in so many money laundering scandals?

Hmmm...
