President Barack Obama on Thursday brushed aside concerns that he favors socialism, saying in an interview with Univision that his policies are so mainstream that he would have been considered a moderate Republican in the 1980s.

Via the transcript of the interview by Alina Mayo Azze of "Noticias Univision 23" in Miami:

AMA: One issue that Cuban-Americans are worried about is, they believe that you favor a socialist model for our country. Cubans and Venezuelans especially because of what they have gone through. What do you think of that?

PBO: I don't know that there are a lot of Cubans or Venezuelans, Americans who believe that. The truth of the matter is that my policies are so mainstream that if I had set the same policies that I had back in the 1980s, I would be considered a moderate Republican. I mean...,


The president has tried to squelch such criticism before, notably telling a business group in 2010 that he is an "ardent believer in the free market." But his responses have done little to allay the questions.

No, he does. He just supposes his supporters are more interested in the shit that comes out of his mouth than the conflicting actions he takes. He's right too. Only those who oppose him or are skeptical of his agenda seem to pin the tale on the donkey.

In an earlier post, someone mentions that people in socialistic countries recognize Obama's actions. Folks, you haven't never experienced real socialism, nothing even close. People in other countries think that the people who accuse Obama of being a socialist are ignorant.

BHO can't make America socialist overnight. The ACA was the foundation, however, and in a very few years it will be single-payer, if we fail in stopping it. He will need another president to follow him with similar leanings to complete the transformation, but I suspect as soon as 2014 another Tea Party uprising may get us the senate back, and we can stop the march downhill into the Marxist abyss.

Or perhaps, by people in other countries you meant the hell hole of a continent where Obama's brother lives in abject poverty.

I'm referring to New Zealand in particular, but I have also heard that comment from relatives of mine living in various Pacific Rim countries. Oh and yeah, I have heard it often from Brits.
Look, I didn't even vote for the guy in November, I'm just tired of being embarrassed by this "Obama is socialist" when we have family gatherings thanks to some of you folks.
