Two words...Social spending. It's 50% of the budget. Out of control and wracked with waste fraud and abuse.
Social security at one time was a benefit to be returned to the individual upon retirement. Because the federal government now has full and absolute discretion to spend social security money. That makes SS a TAX. There is no SS Trust fund. No one has an "account".
Government pensions? Should not exist. Let the workers contribute to a 401k or Individual retirement funds just like those of us in the private sector. There is no reason for the taxpayers to be paying people NOT to work. No public sector worker should get a better deal than those in the private sector. It is an absolute joke that a Senator must serve just two terms and a House member just 6 ( 12 years each) to receive full pension....
