Obama has to Learn to STFU

Nothing wrong with conventions if the corporation is paying for them. When they write them off or bill the taxpayers to pay for golf and spa visits, the taxpayers have a right to be outraged
Conventions are a legitimate business expense. There is no reason it shouldn't be treated that way for taxes.

Obama is a douche bag.

Not all purposes of conventions are legitimate.
Can you prove the ones we are talking about aren't?

That's easy.

FOXNews.com - Nevada Governor Slams Obama's Refusal to Meet With Him

"I'm shocked the president would make a remark like that and then do nothing, including meeting with the governor in an attempt to repair the damage that his remarks caused," Gibbons told FOX News' Neil Cavuto Tuesday.

In a statement Gibbons put out Monday, the governor said Obama's quote that "you can't get corporate jets. You can't go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer's dime" was seen by many as an insult to Las Vegas and as a message to companies across the nation to stay away from Las Vegas for corporate meetings and conventions.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reports over 400 conventions and business meetings scheduled to take place in Las Vegas recently have cancelled, translating into 111,800 guests and 250,000 "room-nights," according to a statement from Gibbons. The cancelled events cost the Las Vegas economy over $100 million, not including gaming revenue, the governor said.
"I am disappointed at the hypocrisy shown by this administration," Gibbons said. "President Obama is coming to Las Vegas later this month for a political fundraiser, but he will not help the struggling families in Las Vegas and Nevada who are out of work because of his reckless comments.

"President Obama is coming to Las Vegas to raise campaign cash for Senator Harry Reid, apparently our money is good enough for the president, but our tourism, jobs and economic future are not. This is politics, pure and simple, President Obama stood for change, but all he has done is brought negative economic change to Nevada."

Here is what Obama said;

President Obama is catching heat from Nevada lawmakers and business leaders regarding his comments Tuesday criticizing trips to Las Vegas.

During the president's town hall meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire, he discussed the need to curb spending during tough economic times. "When times are tough, you tighten your belts," the president said. "You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college."

The president's comments come nearly a year after he criticized companies that received federal money for taking corporate junkets to Las Vegas. "You can't go take that trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on taxpayers' dime," he said at the time. Local business leaders say Nevada tourism suffered last year in part because companies canceled trips to Las Vegas in the wake of the president's comments.

His statement Tuesday drew sharp criticism from Nevada lawmakers. "The President needs to lay off Las Vegas and stop making it the poster child for where people shouldn't be spending their money," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat. "Las Vegas is suffering through one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, and we cannot afford for the President to bring us down any further," added Republican Senator John Ensign. "Nevada has one of the most distressed economies in the country, and the President has done little to focus on job creation over the past year. Discouraging people from coming to our state to make a political point adds insult to injury," said Republican Congressman Dean Heller.

"Tourism is the number one economic stimulus for Southern Nevada and for many cities and states across the country. While we appreciate Las Vegas is top of mind for the President, we would ask that he offer words of encouragement instead of criticism," Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority President and CEO Rossi Ralenkotter said.
President Obama Again Criticizes Trips to Las Vegas - KLAS-TV Channel 8 News Las Vegas

Obama is the President of the United States. You don't denigrate a part of the country whose entire livelihood is based on tourism. Its a stupid thing to say as the President.

Can you imagine if Bush had said "Don't go to Compton because there is a lot of crime there?" What would the response have been?
Still disagree. Vegas is a metaphor. Something Vegas normally doesn't mind. They have to take the good with the bad...

After reading the comments by the Leftist we can see why government-run-anything is always a loser. They don't know the first thing about running a business, it's pitiful and the real shame is that they're throwing our money at their stupid, failed ideas. They want to ban companies from sending people to Las Vegas...good grief! How stupid are you!?

People actually do business in Veags, it's not all blowjobs and blackjack! Do you suck at blackjack, is that the problem?

It's going to take a generation to turn this around, 8 4-year election cycles to get the government back to the small and limited role it's supposed to have.

Well...yes it is, but that's the image they like to cultivate. No one would go to Vegas if it was modeled on the Vatican.

Nope, Mikey, your analysis fails. The numbers in BHO's term are the result of disastrous right wing policy making through 2006. The rest of America understands that, you see, and will only laugh at you for such nonsense. Own it, mikey, own it.

I hold the GOP responsible for its actions from 2001-2006, and I hold the Dems responsible for its actions from 2006-2010.

The one trait shared by both the GOP and the Dems is failure.

I am not a big fan of Vegas. I was last there in 1996. I don't like gambling, and I hate the casinos.

But a lot of people do. And it is inappropriate for Obama to talk down a portion of the economy.

Here is Steve Wynn, CEO of Wynn Resorts, a casino operator in Las Vegas.

The President of the United States hasn’t missed one single opportunity to squelch Las Vegas. In our particular case, it’s cost us millions of dollars from companies affected by the President’s remarks that have no connection whatsoever to federal bailouts. But we get phone calls, and I’m not going to mention the names of the companies, from chairman who say we don’t want to appear to be profligate because Barack Obama said this or that about Las Vegas. But it’s had an effect on us. The hospitality industry in the United States of America as a whole has suffered disproportionately during this recession.

Bullshit.

Corporate events have been down for at least three years if not longer. LV's problems are not the fault of Obama.

Obama is just showing that he doesn't know how to live and let live.

He lectures everyone but he really doesn't have room to talk.

Why not address the OP? I guess this means you got nothing.
I just have about had it with you worthless little skanks disrespecting the comander in chief and the leader of the free world.

So what are you going to do about it, Huggy?

You got nothing. You're all about intimidation with nothing to back it up. On a scale of 1 to 10, I have zero respect for you.

Go fuck yourself you useless twerp.

Why don't you get out your knee-pads and blow him while you're down there.

We aren't obligated to respect the man...just the office...and he's busy destroying the integrity and the prestige of the office for all time so...he doesn't deserve the respect you claim.

Why is it any of his business how people spend their money? Would you appreciate your neighbor telling you how raise your kids? Telling you where to vacation? He is the President, not our father, not our mother. Now, don't get me wrong, I agree with what he said, I just don't think it's his place to say it.

But he's allowed an opinion, no?

Absolutely. And like you and I, he has every right to express his opinion(s). I would, however, suggest that a person in a position of influence should exercise care when he or she expresses their opinion. Words and opinions can be very powerful. While I do not believe that Obabma's call to avoid Las Vegas had nearly the effect on the downturn they have seen as did the economy, I do believe that he should have perhaps chosen another way to express his thoughts and concerns about frivolous spending in these hard times. To single out one city and it's primary source of revenue, something which could do severe damage to the residents employed by the companies that would be most effected by the downturn in visitors, that doesn't strike me as good leadership.

But that's just my opinion.

Huggy, to the best of my knowledge you and I have not had any problems between us, certainly nothing work talking about, and I am not trying to pick a fight now...

But this post makes me want to ask you one question...

Did you defend the previous Commander in Chief and Leader of the Free World with just as much fervor when he was being disrespected?

OK, let me ask you all this:

What does Vegas contribute to society?

The whole town is like a giant lamprey on the back of America.

Now, I'm not saying I don't have fun there, but I am saying that Vegas doesn't MAKE anything, it just steals your money.

The same can be said about much of the entertainment industry. But they do provide employment for millions...
