Obama has to Learn to STFU

Vegas is suffering because they have been built around entertainment and gambling.

Someone should point out to Steve Wynne that in a severe recession, people should be spending their available money on the mortgage, childrens education and taking care of their families first.

Wait.......Obama already did point that out

Agreed... But why give them ammo? Why single them out? Not once but twice. First time I can easily stand behind his statement. Second time, why use them as an example again?

"POLITICAL SOUR GRAPES" as Ravi would say.

I am not a big fan of Vegas. I was last there in 1996. I don't like gambling, and I hate the casinos.

But a lot of people do. And it is inappropriate for Obama to talk down a portion of the economy.

Here is Steve Wynn, CEO of Wynn Resorts, a casino operator in Las Vegas.

The President of the United States hasn’t missed one single opportunity to squelch Las Vegas. In our particular case, it’s cost us millions of dollars from companies affected by the President’s remarks that have no connection whatsoever to federal bailouts. But we get phone calls, and I’m not going to mention the names of the companies, from chairman who say we don’t want to appear to be profligate because Barack Obama said this or that about Las Vegas. But it’s had an effect on us. The hospitality industry in the United States of America as a whole has suffered disproportionately during this recession.

Obama is a Statist. Statists tend to favor a great deal of government control over individual behavior and over the economy. This is who he is, so of course he's going to tell people where he believes they should and shouldn't spend their money. What I find troubling, however, is how many people in America actually agree with Obama.

Right! It astounds me that his approval rating is not in the shitter rather than moderately low. I think many are waiting to see if these increases in economic activity are actually going to continue. So long as they do, his approval will increase too.

? "The hospitality industry in the United States of America as a whole has suffered disproportionately during this recession.? Prove that statement. If the industry suffers because corporations finally are wary because of stockholders and taxpayers' increasing awareness, good.

Jake, Las Vegas is the nations #1 destination for conventions, that's where business gets done you Marxist rube.

Also, was the dry cleaner able to get Obama's bodily fluids off your little blue dress?

Come on out of the closet Jake, you're not fooling any one.

Why?

Because Vegas has intenionally positioned itself as "Sin City" Vegas is synonymous with excess spending and fun

Obama could have said Biloxi Mississippi but it would not have registered the way "Vegas" does

Here is what Obama said;

President Obama is catching heat from Nevada lawmakers and business leaders regarding his comments Tuesday criticizing trips to Las Vegas.

During the president's town hall meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire, he discussed the need to curb spending during tough economic times. "When times are tough, you tighten your belts," the president said. "You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college."

The president's comments come nearly a year after he criticized companies that received federal money for taking corporate junkets to Las Vegas. "You can't go take that trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on taxpayers' dime," he said at the time. Local business leaders say Nevada tourism suffered last year in part because companies canceled trips to Las Vegas in the wake of the president's comments.

His statement Tuesday drew sharp criticism from Nevada lawmakers. "The President needs to lay off Las Vegas and stop making it the poster child for where people shouldn't be spending their money," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat. "Las Vegas is suffering through one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, and we cannot afford for the President to bring us down any further," added Republican Senator John Ensign. "Nevada has one of the most distressed economies in the country, and the President has done little to focus on job creation over the past year. Discouraging people from coming to our state to make a political point adds insult to injury," said Republican Congressman Dean Heller.

"Tourism is the number one economic stimulus for Southern Nevada and for many cities and states across the country. While we appreciate Las Vegas is top of mind for the President, we would ask that he offer words of encouragement instead of criticism," Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority President and CEO Rossi Ralenkotter said.

President Obama Again Criticizes Trips to Las Vegas - KLAS-TV Channel 8 News Las Vegas

Obama is the President of the United States. You don't denigrate a part of the country whose entire livelihood is based on tourism. Its a stupid thing to say as the President.

Can you imagine if Bush had said "Don't go to Compton because there is a lot of crime there?" What would the response have been?

Obama is such a clueless, reckless, moron.

His big mouth is affecting thousands of jobs, in an already bad economy.

Unless Obama is going to say something to help the economy, and not hurt it he should shut the fuck up.

Obama has refused to meet with the Nevada governor to help repair the damage that he caused with his reckless remarks.

FOXNews.com - Nevada Governor Slams Obama's Refusal to Meet With Him

"I'm shocked the president would make a remark like that and then do nothing, including meeting with the governor in an attempt to repair the damage that his remarks caused," Gibbons told FOX News' Neil Cavuto Tuesday.

In a statement Gibbons put out Monday, the governor said Obama's quote that "you can't get corporate jets. You can't go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer's dime" was seen by many as an insult to Las Vegas and as a message to companies across the nation to stay away from Las Vegas for corporate meetings and conventions.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reports over 400 conventions and business meetings scheduled to take place in Las Vegas recently have cancelled, translating into 111,800 guests and 250,000 "room-nights," according to a statement from Gibbons. The cancelled events cost the Las Vegas economy over $100 million, not including gaming revenue, the governor said.
"I am disappointed at the hypocrisy shown by this administration," Gibbons said. "President Obama is coming to Las Vegas later this month for a political fundraiser, but he will not help the struggling families in Las Vegas and Nevada who are out of work because of his reckless comments.

"President Obama is coming to Las Vegas to raise campaign cash for Senator Harry Reid, apparently our money is good enough for the president, but our tourism, jobs and economic future are not. This is politics, pure and simple, President Obama stood for change, but all he has done is brought negative economic change to Nevada."

Bullshit.

Corporate events have been down for at least three years if not longer. LV's problems are not the fault of Obama.

Perhaps, Ravi, perhaps. But the President flapping his gums telling people not to go to Las Vegas does nothing to help the situation. He hasn't suggested people stop going to Disneyworld, or New York City, or Hawaii, or any other such destination where one could easily drop a couple of grand in pursuit of the "experience" the destination offers... Only Las Vegas.

Has Harry Reid come out and said anything to the contrary? Or he simply rolled over and kept his yap shut? I can't recall.

That Marxist/Socialist/Muslim/Nazi..

How dare he say you should prioritize your childrens college education over a weekend in Vegas?

What is this country coming to?

Why is it any of his business how people spend their money? Would you appreciate your neighbor telling you how raise your kids? Telling you where to vacation? He is the President, not our father, not our mother. Now, don't get me wrong, I agree with what he said, I just don't think it's his place to say it.

If not the President then who?

In the context of his entire statement he is well within his rights to discuss "tightening your belt" He applied a metaphor of families prioritizing spending to government prioritizing spending.

I don't see why advocating not buying a boat when you can't pay your mortgage is a concept so hard for conservatives to grasp. Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

He has a whole helluva lot to learn.

In fact, I cannot think of one single thing in his extremely thin resume which recommends him as any kind of expert on economics, medical care, the environment, military affairs, or virtually any other concern of a chief executive of anything.

Little wad, you have just described yourself, so be quiet, please, and give us all a break.
Actually, I run a small business that has been in more or less continuous operation since '90....Which is exactly one more than the Boyking has.

You lose again, dickweed.

Well Fuck us!! That makes you the flippin expert don't it! SHEEEEEIIIIT! You should be in the cabinet where you could put other words in Obamas mouth and make everthing right as rain!!!

You DO have priors...!!!

People who cannot afford to pay their mortgages should not be wasting scarce dollars on useless Amway products

Understand now?

Funny how Vegas is losing tourists but NOLA appears to be keeping them. Probably because the main thing Vegas provides you is a way to give your money away. And it doesn't help that you can go to a Casino almost anywhere now.

You people do realize that when someone who would have ordinarily lost $10,000 gambling DOESN'T go to Vegas - that person is likely to spend that money into the economy anyway? Like on their kids college?

If you tell people not to buy boats, the boat builders and brokers will go broke. The suppliers to the boat builders will suffer loss of income. The people that work for the boat builders and brokers will become unemployed. Their input to the economy will disappear, except for the taxes they owe.

There is no need for the government to tell consumers where to spend their money.

Perhaps you and that inept Marxist Obama will someday learn that fucking fact.

Gambling is not an industry. Industry implies something of worth. Hiring people to help other people to flush thier hard earned money down the toilet should be discouraged.

I suppose you support the crack "industry" as well.:eek::eek::clap2::clap2:
