President Obama currently holds leads small leads in almost every swing state over Mitt Romney. But judging by the amount of money spent by Obama in those states, it is amazing his lead isn’t bigger. In almost every swing state tracked by National Journal, Obama has outspent Romney on television by almost a 2-to-1 margin through September 6th of this year. The only exception is North Carolina where Obama has only outspent Romney $17.4 million to $10.8 million and Romney leads by 5.

In pure dollars, the biggest spending gap is in Ohio where Obama has spent $37.6 million and Romney has spent only $17.9 million. Obama currently leads by 4.3 points in the Buckeye state.

In percentage terms, the biggest spending gap is Nevada where Obama has spent more than double Romney, $13.3 million to $5.5 million. Obama leads by only 3.3 points in the Silver state.

Obama will not be able to keep up this dramatic spending advantage through till election day. At the end of July, Romney had a $60 million advantage over Obama, and at the end of August Romney has $168.5 million cash on hand. Obama has refused to disclose how much money he has left.

People forget that Obama outspent McCain by a ratio of 4 to 1 throughout the campaign and by 5 to 1 during the last month and once McCain's campaign got started, Obama didn't pull away until McCain ran out of money.
