Prices At The Pump​

"Strangely, the current run-up in prices comes despite sinking demand in the U.S. “Petrol demand is as low as it’s been since April 1997,” says Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for the Oil Price Information Service. “People are properly puzzled by the fact that we’re using less gas than we have in years, yet we’re paying more.”

Kloza believes much of the increase is due to speculative money that’s flowed into gasoline futures contracts since the beginning of the year, mostly from hedge funds and large money managers. “We’ve seen about $11 billion of speculative money come in on the long side of gas futures,” he says. “Each of the last three weeks we’ve seen a record net long position being taken.”

Cornell University Global Labor Institute finding that the pipeline would add only 500 to 1,400 temporary construction jobs. The authors of the September report also said that much of the new employment stemming from Keystone would be outside the U.S.


Transcanada itself cast doubt on its employment forecast when a vice president for the company told CNN last fall that the 20,000 jobs Keystone would create were temporary and that the project would likely yield only "hundreds" of permanent positions

price of gas reached high levels, rising above $4/gallon , but that wasn’t due to a lack of trying to increase domestic supply on Bush's part.

Remember the great price drop when Bush opened up areas for drilling?
They were dropping all year and they dropped to about a 1.80

26 months of Bush’s first term in office, the price of gasoline increased by around 7%
Papa Obama first 26 months the price of gas has peaked over 67%

The problem for the Left:

Indeed what was the price of gas when Bush left office- it was a lot lower
Do Papa Obama policies increase or decrease the price of gas, in the long run- they increase

it still has not hit the national High on gasoline prices that occurred in July of 2008.....

It probably will break the Bush record high in 2008, later this spring, but it has not happened as of yet.

Gasoline on the east coast from florida to Maine ranged from 3.46 in virginia, to 3.86 in North Carolina, to 3.83 here in Maine...New Jersey was the lowest on our drive home from Florida, which was 3.43....florida was $3.59 this past tuesday, the day we left for the drive home.

I can't IMAGINE the pain that is hitting those of you on the West coast with those kind of prices!!!!!!

common sense would say that there SHOULD have been fewer oil leases this particular year due to all of the uncertainty of the measures taken by the industry to protect us from oil disasters....

What happened in 2011? Did they go back up from 2010?
