"Unreal: Obama Uses Executive Authority To Make Recess Appointment Even Though Congress Is In Session…

Last time I checked we’re in America, not Venezuela (where another Marxist abuses his power).

This is just the beginning.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a defiant display of executive power, President Barack Obama on Wednesday will buck GOP opposition and name Richard Cordray as the nation’s chief consumer watchdog even though the Senate contends the move is inappropriate, senior administration officials told The Associated Press

With a director in place, the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will be able to start overseeing the mortgage companies, payday lenders, debt collectors and other financial companies often blamed for practices that helped tank the economy.

Obama’s decision to make a recess appointment is certain to cause an uproar from Capitol Hill to Wall Street. He is essentially declaring the Senate’s short off-and-on legislative sessions a sham intended to block his appointments.

The White House is expecting considerable criticism and perhaps a court challenge, but says Obama was left with little choice to get the consumer agency fully running after months of stalemate.

Acting right after Tuesday’s GOP presidential caucuses in Iowa, Obama is seeking to grab attention and show voters that he will advocate for the middle class no matter what the opposition. It is his most bare-knuckle initiative so far in his campaign of taking action without waiting for Congress."

The House needs to withhold funding for the new agency, let Obama use his stash for it

This is clearly not legal. Congress is not out of session, he can not use a Recess appointment. But I have always known he does not think rules apply to him.

He believes those wacked out lefties who have been saying we need him to have Dictatorial powers to fix things.

Someone needs to remind him that he is the President, not the King.

Democrats will say he had to do it, to get around the Congress's playing games with being in session, but the fact his he CAN not get it approved by congress and he knows it. He would not dream of asking congress to consider it while in session. Which is why congress is technically still in session. If Obama can play games and try and hold out for a Recess appointment, then Congress can play games to and stay in Session. What he can't do is Fucking Break the rules and make a recess appointment when there not on Recess.

If the GOP was reasonable he would not have to resort to extraordinary measures. With congress frozen in a bog of partisan bullshit the president must do what he can to move forward. Good for him, shame on the GOP.

We really need another layer of bureacracy?????

It's not like there aren't already a dozen agencies with the same obligations.

Good for our President. Make the GOP game players go to court. Win or lose, this is a good move for the President. It will show how the GOP has been gaming the system in order to protect the predatory thieves.

President Obama needs to stand up and call the GOP on every shyster trick they use. Challenge them head on, show the corruption that they represent.

That's the problem, consumer protection was spread out to different agencies none of whom had the personnel or the primary mission to protect consumers from fraud and what has become legalized loan sharking in the payday loan industry.

Funny thing, the president has a far higher approval rating than congress does (at 8%) right now.

I don't agree with his interpretation of congress' off and on bullshit, I can't help but feel like they aren't doing jack shit anyways so he might as well.

I hope the GOP makes a huge stink about this, maybe they will find out how popular the formation of this agency really was.

You know--

The President can force Congress to convene. Then he could have made the appointment and forced Congress to vote him in or out. Now, the Republicans can win some political brownie points with the public while they fight the appointment.

Wow, this election season is starting to turn up!! I really am going to enjoy the political sideshow that the GOP/Democrats are going to stage in order to keep their jobs. Popcorn, please!

Try to pay-attention.....

"It was designed to consolidate employees and responsibilities from a number of other federal regulatory bodies, including the Federal Reserve, the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and even the Department of Housing and Urban Development."

For Teabaggers' benefit......

consolidate: : to join together into one whole.

Are recess appointments against the law? Are pro forma sessions actually sessions? Let's let the republicans either bring numerous legal challenges and therefore perhaps cut their own throats down the road or shut the hell up and find something else to destroy or hold for ransom.
