WASHINGTON — President Obama on Saturday endorsed a Senate bill to create a bipartisan budget commission, whose recommendations for slashing deficits would have to be voted on by Congress. But he remained ready to establish a panel by executive order if the effort to do so by law fails even with his support.

Sound good? Here's the catch:

While there are differences, both his bill and the proposed executive order would establish an 18-member bipartisan commission to propose a multiyear plan to reduce annual deficits. The panel would report after the November elections, and Congress would vote on its recommendations in December.

That means Obama is committed to doing nothing at all about the deficit until at least next December but wants to be able to claim he is fiscally responsible while he spends and spends and spends in the meantime. Some people keep wanting to believe they are listening to Professor Obama, but time after time the clear evidence is that all they are getting is Whiplash Barry.

The GOP has already wisely declined to participate in this particular exercise in butt covering and tax raising.
They are getting smarter already. McCain would be endorsing such a move in the name of bipartisanship.

I wish I could list all the time the DC clowns formed commissions to address the deficit and spending. The Greenspan Commission and the Moynihan Commission come to mind.

Nothing ever happens. The MFs prefer their ponzi scheme to actually fixing it. It would have been easier to fix long ago, but neither party wanted to to anything.

We need the MSM to punish the obstructionists, not the ones trying to fix SS & Medicare. This new commission won't do anything either, even though fixing SS is easy. Medicare is a tough problem, but there are tons of alternatives to consider
