The Porkulus package was to "prevent" unemployment going over 8%, the real rate is around 13% ever since that bill passed.

They keep adjusting the numbers upward week after week. Yes, this is Obama's economy. And yes, it is playing politics when Reid shelves anything that the republicans
hand off to him.

Jobless claims declined by 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 387,000 in the week ended June 16, the Labor Department said Thursday. Claims from two weeks ago were revised up to 389,000 from an original reading of 386,000, based on more complete data collected at the state level.

Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had projected claims would fall to 385,000.

The average of new claims over the past month, meanwhile, climbed by 3,500 to 386,250, marking the highest level in almost seven months. The four-week average reduces seasonal volatility in the weekly data and is seen as a more accurate barometer of labor-market trends.

The level of claims is a rough gauge of whether layoffs are rising or falling. Claims fell steadily in the second half of 2011 and touched a four-year low in early 2012 before turning higher.

they are better than if the Great Recession had lead to a new Turn of the Century World Wide Depression - that was prevented by the economic policies (Stimulus) of the present Administration that curtailed the 07-09 Great Recession in less than two years after taking office.

Europe is now experiencing a second period of negative GDP and retrenchment of their recession that would be far worse if the US were having a similar condition.

relatively speaking, a slow recovery is far better than either negative GDP or neg. job growth that would indeed not be good.
