when employment starts growing at a sustained rate of over 135K I am on board, in that it means we have started a recovery. 135K is roughly give or take 10K the break even point for new entrants due to pop. growth, anything under that is a net loss.

That being said we are years away from anywhere near 6-7%.

If we were in a real recovery, real job growth would be 250K-300K per month.

And even higher. We are expected to accept a trickle. It is entirely unacceptable.

The problem with this spin is that if Christmas next year is not even bigger the contrast will undermine the Obama presidency further. A lot of the programs put in by the administration are dependent on other players to get their act together and that is unlikely to happen.

1.7% is not an increase to crow about after a few years of being in the doldroms. Population growth alone accounts for 1/3 of the increase.

At this point after a severe recession, the economy should be growing at a minimum rate of 5%. It is growing at half that rate.
