Once it gets to the point that it's clear Obama is losing he'll get desperate and he'll start showing his true colors. He just might lose big.

I seriously think that Obama isn't as well liked as everyone keeps saying. Anyone who's had to deal with him knows he's a scoundrel. The only thing keeping him afloat is a fawning press. Without that he'd be sunk. The press could utterly destroy him.

But they'll destroy Romney instead.

Incidently, I think this is probably as good as it gets for Romney, and he starts sinking soon. Take a look at the Fox Poll. Obama's just opened a 7 point lead on him.

McCain won the nomination by default. The conservative vote was split between 2 or more candidates. The press was nice to McCain and were his friends till he won, then turned on him.

The same arguments could be made about Romney. Conservative vote remained divided, the press was really nice to him until he won, etc.

Incidently, I think the problem with your premise is that McCain won because the conservative vote was split.

McCain got more votes than Huckabee and Romney (neither of whom were really "conservatives", either) combined.

Romney wasn't trusted by conservatives because he had governed as a liberal.
