Obama does want to take your guns.

After a 1996 Mass Shooting, Australia Enacted Strict Gun Laws. It Hasn’t Had a Similar Massacre Since.

On April 28, 1996, a gunman opened fire on tourists in a seaside resort in Port Arthur, Tasmania. By the time he was finished, he had killed 35 peopleand wounded 23 more. It was the worst mass murder in Australia’s history.

Twelve days later, Australia’s government did something remarkable. Led by newly elected conservative Prime Minister John Howard, it announced a bipartisan deal with state and local governments to enact sweeping gun-control measures. A decade and a half hence, the results of these policy changes are clear: They worked really, really well.

What happened next has been the subject of several academic studies. Violent crime and gun-related deaths did not come to an end in Australia, of course. But asthe Washington Post’s Wonkblog pointed out in August, homicides by firearm plunged 59 percent between 1995 and 2006, with no corresponding increase in non-firearm-related homicides. The drop in suicides by gun was even steeper: 65 percent. Studies found a close correlation between the sharp declines and the gun buybacks. Robberies involving a firearm also dropped significantly. Meanwhile, home invasions did not increase, contrary to fears that firearm ownership is needed to deter such crimes. But here’s the most stunning statistic. In the decade before the Port Arthur massacre, there had been 11 mass shootings in the country. There hasn’t been a single one in Australia since.

Hmmmmmmmm.............................

And your reply is?

Well, if the GOP and the NRA continue to block any kind of sensible gun legislation, you are going to see Australian type of laws when we have a few more incidents like that in Roseburg. And you fruitloop "Conservatives" can look in the mirror when you want to assign the blame for that.
That so called "sensible" gun legislation would save zero lives... Just put a whole lot more guns in criminal hands.
Really? And what were the results of the Australian gun laws?

Did gun control work in Australia?

John Howard, who served as prime minister of Australia from 1996 to 2007, is no one's idea of a lefty. He was one of George W. Bush's closest allies, enthusiastically backing the Iraq intervention, and took a hard line domestically against increased immigration and union organizing (pdf).

But one of Howard's other lasting legacies is Australia's gun control regime, first passed in 1996 in response to a massacre in Tasmania that left 35 dead. The law banned semiautomatic and automatic rifles and shotguns. It also instituted a mandatory buy-back program for newly banned weapons.

On Wednesday, Howard took to the Melbourne daily the Age to call on the United States, in light of the Aurora, Colo., massacre, to follow in Australia's footsteps. "There are many American traits which we Australians could well emulate to our great benefit," he concluded. "But when it comes to guns, we have been right to take a radically different path."

So what have the Australian laws actually done for homicide and suicide rates? Howard cites a study (pdf) by Andrew Leigh of Australian National University and Christine Neill of Wilfrid Laurier University finding that the firearm homicide rate fell by 59 percent, and the firearm suicide rate fell by 65 percent, in the decade after the law was introduced, without a parallel increase in non-firearm homicides and suicides. That provides strong circumstantial evidence for the law's effectiveness.
That is a different country means nothing here... Proof and details here in this country.
Of course, you are a liar. That, other than Canada, is probably the closest culture to our own in the world. And they had 11 mass shootings in a decade before the passage of the gun laws. Not even one since then.

Bernie sanders was just on msnbc talking about banning guns if he was president... Socialist whack jobs are the worst people in the world.

That don't sound right . He's always been really pro gun .

I call bullflop !!!
He told Chris Hayes if he were elected president he would ban ar's and the like...
That is a very sane move. I would not ban them. Too much trouble rounding them up. What I would do is require that you have the same license that is required to own a fully automatic weapon. And if you are caught off your property with one, without that license on your person, you have committed a felony, and cannot own any type of gun for the rest of your life.

What other country have done are meaningless, they can't be any more different. They have much less diversity, much different populations, much different history, different everything.

We should not be the same as other country's that is why we left the cesspool that is Europe... To be different. Why go backwards other country's have nothing to offer.

Damn, you are one dumb shit. Europe is hardly a cesspool. Some of those nations have a higher standard of living than we do. And most are as free as we are. You are living in a time two centuries ago.

You keep on keep'n on... There are a few more people in the US plus our history's and founding documents could not be more different.
And other differences to numerous to list...

Nice try

Tell me the details of the difference between an ar and any other firearm... And please don't mirror the clueless dribble that I hear in the media every night.

There is no difference between an ar and any other firearm...
