It's about time he stood up and forced the GOP to negotiate. During his first term, he offered them concession after concession, only to have it all thrown back in his face because their commitment was to defeating him in 2012, not doing what's best for the country.

The GOP lost in their bid to unseat him, so now they have to put up or shut up. If the country goes over the "fiscal cliff," it will be THEY who pushed us over and the American people know it.

Stand firm, Mr. President. Don't let them hold our nation hostage for partisan purposes again. You have all the cards and they're bluffing....if they have any sense at all....which sometimes seems doubtful.

Boy, that's pretty weak. Golf? Is that the best you can come up with?

But, that's what I'd do if I were him. Go play some golf and let the GOP simmer in their own juices for awhile. The longer the GOP refuses to act in the nations interest, instead of ideological interests, the more they look like that par-boiling frog.

Obama is such a good negotiator, "sit down shut up and do what I say", then he goes out on the campaign trail besmirching everyone that was in the room

He is great orator, but one useless prick at the negotiating table.

Ronald Reagan went over the head of Congress and appealed directly to the people several times. And, it worked.

What's different this time? Should The People not be involved? Would you prefer that professional politicians cut a deal in a back room out of sight?

You're so full of shit......
Why wasn't he there NEGOTIATING with the GOP instead of playing golf? He has time for golf AFTER they take care of this. Just shows how much he doesn't care what happens....and you're going to blame the GOP for this?? God you people are stupid!

What's different? Reagan made sense and wasn't forcing half the country to be dependent on government to wipe their ass for them.

Nutters hate it when they are besmirched.

Suddenly, they love the idea of compromise.

In the bubble, you ain't negotiating unless you are physically sitting at a negotiating table.

anyone think the NySlimes will EVER get off their knees for Obama?

man that article was dripping with barf

:suck:

So just because he won we have to do everything he tells us to do?

Fuck that.

But of course they think that, they thought the same when Bush was in office......lol, NOT

Democrats: Bush tax cuts don't work

... but they want to save them for families making less than $250K

Democrats: no deal without tax rate hikes

... but deductions and loopholes are the main reason why some wealthy people pay low tax rates

INCLUDING all those Democrat millionaires in Congress..

Good for Obama & the country. 2014 can not get here fast enough , clean the house .

It may be the NYT times again, but Nobel prize winning economist Paul Krugman gets it, even if y'all don't.

"...While there has been a lot of bluster from the G.O.P. about how we should reduce the deficit with spending cuts, not tax increases, no leading figures on the Republican side have been able or willing to specify what, exactly, they want to cut.

And there’s a reason for this reticence. The fact is that Republican posturing on the deficit has always been a con game, a play on the innumeracy of voters and reporters…

….So while the fiscal cliff — still a bad name for the looming austerity bomb, but I guess we’re stuck with it — is a bad thing from an economic point of view, it has had at least one salutary political effect. For it has finally laid bare the con that has always been at the core of the G.O.P.’s political strategy…"

The Big Budget Mumble - NYTimes.com

If the GOP continues their intransigence and pushes us over the cliff, the heat from that will cook their goose and they know it. On the other hand, giving in one iota from their position will cook it too, with the base.

They've painted themselves into a corner with the rhetorical con they've been playing for years and now it's time to pay the piper.

My prediction: They'll finally come to the table with something, and Obama will give them a face-saving way out for the good of the country. In the end, Obama gets most of what he wants and the nutters here will go ballistic.

I think if you want to be fair you need to look at the negotiation from both sides.

Obama presented them with an offer they had to refuse. It wasn't meant to be accepted. He did the same thing last year when he made offers before lunch and the GOP accepted them in part, yet after lunch they discovered that the offer was pulled and replaced with new offers that had no chance of being workable. Boehner said it was like trying to nail down jello. His goal is not to reach an agreement.

Obama doesn't believe in using the system to get what he wants. He likes going around government and ruling by edict. He rarely ever meets with cabinet members because all of his decisions are made by czars and folks that aren't officially part of the White House staff. Obama intends on letting things fall apart and then blaming it all on the Republicans. He's dishonest and underhanded to the extreme. He can't help using his friends in the press to attack the Republicans when everything falls apart. He made a point of meeting with them before the offer was made by Geithner.

The only reason that Democrats passed pay as you go legislation is because it gives Obama carte blanch to go to sequestration when agreements break down.

and you NOTICE folks, this deal was already done, but once again the Democrats are reneging on their deal..but they are applauded for it and the SET UP is already there to blame the Republicans..so forget it and let Obama go over the cliff..

let the people who voted for him get a real dose of what's he's got in store for them in the next four years on top of his pet government program (ObamaCare) THEY will get to pay for..
