Obama DHS Purchases 2,700 Light-Armored Tanks to Go With Their 1.6 Billion Bullet Sto

WHY?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Pittsburgh_police_shootings

The Pittsburgh SWAT team, after 4 cops were killed, pull an armored car into the front yard of the lunatic that was barricaded in a house with an AK47 firing rounds out of the windows. The armored car drew fire for a couple hours, and Pitt PD SWAT fired thousands of rounds in the shootout, and took countless rounds that the armored car absorbed.

The shootout ended when a Pitt SWAT sniper (OH YEAH THEY HAVE SNIPERS OH NO THE BOOGEY MAN OBAMA IS GONNA GET YA!!!!).........a Pitt SWAT sniper timed the man's window pattern, and put a round through the actual AK47, ending his shooting spree.

If you were on THAT call, what type of car would your wife and daughter want you riding in?

None of you whacks have answered that question yet, and I've asked it 5 times.

mmm. flank him. he can't shoot out all 4 sides of the house at one time.

Well, like Pittsburgh, he may have hostages. So you cant just open fire on the house. And, there are innocent people all around. Cant just let the guy keep shooting. You must engage him and stop the threat. Just like active shooter situations, cops jobs are to DRAW FIRE. If he is shooting at us, then he is NOT shooting at innocent people. Thats the theory and practice they use.

But, in general, lets apply gun nut logic to these armored cars. The military saved a LOT of lives with these MRAPS in the ME. But, not until after IED's were discovered, and they lost many lives before that. So, they got these after they needed them.

Isn't it said by the NRA types about guns........better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it?

Well, the cops are using that same logic. Better to have it and not need it than the reverse.

oh really? and Pitt PD SWAT fired thousands of rounds in the shootout care to try again? this time without contradicting yourself

No one has shown there is a "stockpile" of ammo. Procurement contracts are for multiple years.

What is your problem Werewolf? It is bad enough you are a copy-and-paste bot of the worst of the right wing hack sites, but now you are doubling down?

This is getting a little creepy.

Yes, you are.

Sure. See, I've actually trained and work with these tactics, so, I'll educate you on some stuff.

Pittsburgh was parked in the front yard, in an armored vehicle. And the loser engaged the team from the windows. They fired all those rounds into the house, at him. Unfortunately, it was an old era house with thick concrete walls, so rounds weren't getting through.

Thats the difference in "directed fire" vs mass "open fire" or "suppressive fire".

If you "flank him", and open fire on the house (suppressive fire) and he has hostages- mom was inside- then you run the risk of killing a hostage, plus, you dont draw his fire towards you. Meaning he can still shoot innocent people.

You should read about the LA riots when the USMC helped LAPD. LAPD was at one house where a man was shooting at them from inside. They had Marines to assist. They told the Marines "cover us" as they moved. The USMC opened fire, suppressive fire, on the house. Oh shit! Thats not how police do it, because of legal concerns. "Cover us" means point a gun and engage a threat, not suppressive fire.

So when I say you cant just "open fire" on a house, that means you cant just flood a house with bullets, not knowing what you are hitting, or if hostages or innocents are inside. But, if you park in the front yard with an armored car, DRAW HIS FIRE to the vehicle, then you can fight back, with directed fire. If the cops did YOUR plan, and "just flank him" but never engage him, and he is firing bullets across the street with an AK47 (which can go 500 yards or more) then you'd be outraged saying the cops "didnt do anything" to stop him.

Now, care to discuss further? You dont have much knowledge in this field, so read up a bit.

It amazes me that right wing paranoia nuts go nutty when DHS or a SWAT team gets some military-style equipment. But, then then support all the military spending in the world, allowing our military to gear up to no limits.

And they truly think if the US government decides to inflict tyranny on us, that they'll use only DHS and police, and not military.

so directive fire was aimed at the walls and not the windo he was shooting out of? yea, that sounds like training you have had

it's even more amazing when the anti gun nuts claim the citezen gun owners are better armed than DHS and swat teams

The right wing propaganda machine churns on.

It happens all the time and I, for one, do not think it's accidental or a coincidence. Does anyone else?

Ooops. My bad. Make that FIVE threads within 12 hours:

Yep. Homeland Security Grants are very common for local, county, state law enforcment departments. DHS buys surplus military stuff, like these, then grants them to PD's.

Why? Well, PD's are tired of getting cops killed in ambushes. They show up to shit like a suicidal person with a gun or a domestic situation with a mentally disturbed person, they get ambushed, and people die. Cops are tired of it. So, they're gonna armor up.

Risk is an inherent part of the police occupation. Those who are not willing to assume the level of risk should not accept appointment. But in spite of the level of risk policework ranks comparatively low on the list of dangerous jobs. The 10 most dangerous jobs in America | SmartPlanet

The problem with issuing all these armored vehicles to civilian police agencies is it serves as one more major increment in their increasing militarization. What's the next step, flame-throwers?

This Janet Napolitano freak is dangerous and should be replaced with a psychologically normal person.
