I still cannot get over how we are going from a budget deficit of $162 billion in 2007 to a projected deficit of $1.7652 TRILLION in 2009.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is absolute political madness initiated by a president and Congress bereft of common sense, to say nothing of common decency.

Absolutely appalling.

You got that right. But this will fall under the 'Bush inheritance', just wait for it. FWIW, congress never seems to possess a lot of common sense.

he's going to double that in 2010 and triple it in 2011,,

this will fall under the 'Bush inheritance

someone had to fix the mess he made. I for one HATE that this is necessary.... but sitting on your hands and saying 2.5 million people should lose their jobs and the banks and auto makers should collapse is really a recipe for disaster....

ya cuz none of the dems in congress could do anything about it for 2 years .....

actually, no ... they couldn't.....

no 60 senate seats = filibuster

bush as president = veto

sorry... this one's on you guys.

you're talking about a 1 senator difference like it mattered... and the 1 senator was Lieberman.

And how is he fixing this mess? Please explain how Obama's stimulus bill is fixing this mess? How is the proposed Omnibus bill fixing this mess?

We are waiting to hear your specific examples...

they can't work if they are not a dictorship,, that's the way I'm reading that bullshit.

I am still waiting to see specific examples of how Obama and the Democrat DOMINATED Congress has done anything to actually "fix this mess".

The fact you don't have a quick response to share regarding that proves you are off looking for one, which proves you are simply blindly accepting this MASSIVE increase in the national debt - and increase that is likely to be far more than the Obama projections because those projections are based upon considerable economic growth that most economists believe to be unlikely.

How could anyone so blindly accept such spending without actually looking into the facts to support it?

That kind of intellectual apathy is exactly why this nation is in such a mess today.

C'mon Jillian!

This nonsense is precisely why 2.5million people lost their jobs. Bush was hardly a fiscal conservative, as demonstrated shown here:

Repeating this nonsense is not only unethical, but mad. Einstein said the mark of insanity was doing the same thing over and over and hoping for a different result. Obama is totally ignoring history, and a lot more are going to lose their jobs as a result. You can't bail people out without someone losing their job elsewhere. There isn't an endless supply of money. If you take money to bailout GM, you deprive another market somewhere of that same money, and that's why government spending correlates inversely, as we've plainly seen with the Bush years, with employment.

GREAT POST.

If you take away the massive increase in spending under the Bush years, his tax cuts would have provided a SURPLUS. But what Bush and the Democrat-light Republicans of that era did was SPEND-SPEND-SPEND and it made me sick.

Obama and the Democrat Congress are returning the nation to LBJ type spending though, far surpassing the irresponsible spending of the Bush years, and this nation simply cannot afford to do that.

Common sense, now far too uncommon, MUSt return to Washington DC.

ah... I so love that....

Bush's policies were the logical extension of republican policies since the days of Reagan... .except Reagan was smart enough to raise taxes when the economy started to tank (as was daddy bush) and didn't cut taxes (on the rich, no less) during war time... something Bush was the only leader in history to do.

But keep pretending they weren't republican policies... repubs aren't conservatives, anyway. they just always claim to be. what they are.. is reactionary.

You're certainly right about one thing, the republicans that were elected in the last 8 years weren't very conservative. Yes, in fact they ramped up spending with no care for the poor person, who inevitably has to shoulder it, and they also supported bailouts for their friends in Wall Street and Detroit... one might call them socialists. Hell, if it bailouts like a socialist, and smells like a socialist, then they likely are socialists, huh? They were more radical liberals than any seen since LBJ or even FDR.

Supply side economics doesn't benefit anyone either. Cutting taxes without cutting spending does nothing when government spending is the hindrance to all economic growth.

they weren't socialists... ask them ... they believe in unhindered CAPITALISM... you know, without any oversight, heaven forbid. They do so love de-regulation.

Obviously Obama and the Democrats needed to "fix the mess" by making an even better mess.

That does appear to be the Jillian philosophy.

Sad to see an adult so lacking in functional intelligence...

You know, I meant to type 'bigger' mess, but 'better' works, too. :)
