4. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are fewer people employed now than back in January 2009 when Barack Obama was sworn in as President, and there are more people unemployed now than in January 2009.

Back then, a reported 142 million people had jobs. In July 2011, 139.2 million people had jobs.

In terms of employment, the private sector is smaller now than when Obama was sworn in. In January 2009, 110.9 million people were working in the (nonfarm) private sector, but by July 2011 there were only 109.9 million - despite the larger U.S. population in 2011.

So....what the heck has this guy been doing for three and a half years????

All of the President' claims of jobs were based on a reference of February, 2010. You're citing speeches a few months old, and things have gone up a little since then, but let's use current data.
January 2009 there were 133,561,000 total and 110,985,000 private sector non-farm pay roll jobs.
February 2010 there were 129,244,000 total and 106,773,000 private sector jobs. Losses of -4,317,000 and -4,212,000 respectively.
June 2012, there were 133,088,000 total and 111,145,000 private sector jobs. Gains of 3,844,000 total and 4,372,000 private sector.
But that is still -473,000 total jobs since Jan 2009. +160,000 private sector (though it still would have been a loss when he gave those speeches).

So Obama was right about gaining 3-4 million jobs since the low point of Feb 2010 though misleading since it was still not up to the level when he took office.

And the critics are right that it was still down from when he took office, but misleading in that they ignored that it had gotten a lot worse and then has improved from the worst.

To sum up: We lost approx 4.3 million jobs in the first 13 months Obama was in office, and have gained back 3.8 million of them in 28 months. So we are recovering, but very slowly. I expect we'll gain back the next half-million by October so he'll have a around a net zero change going into re-election.

I think he conveniently forgets about all the people not even drawing unemployment now because it's been taken away from the....the ones that have given up finding work. Obama said it, it has to be true! Idiots!

The Unemployment data has never ever been based on eligibility or receipt of Unemployment Insurance Benefits. Anyone available and looking for work is classified as Unemployed.

Now for the Jobs data Obama has been quoting...those are non-farm payroll jobs and do exclude the self-employed and agriculture. Those are all included in the Total Employment figures used to calculate the unemployment rate, though.

Note that the Jobs data are NOT used in any way to calculate the UE rate. Different surveys.

LOL. Are you as dumb as this post suggests (meaning you actually believe what you posted) or do you believe the readers of your post are dumb?

Remember, there are liars, damn liars and statistics.

1. Boooooooooooosh. Yep, the hole dug by the Bush Administration included a sink hole; a sink hole which continued for years.

2. Day by day, month by month, the GOP and their surrogates - you my 'deer' - worked aggressively to make the economic crisis worse (the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself - and fear was and remains the only tool in the bag of dirty tricks of the far right.

Why can't people just leave Obama alone.

He is "evolving" for the benefit of our nation.

And that takes a lot of self sacrifice and personal time on the golf course.

Gotta love still blaming Bush. Should Obama get re-elected, they'll be saying thhat all the way to year 8.

But really, the president can not create private sector jobs. he can merely steer the govt. away from curtailing private sector initiative adn making ventures look enticing.

Now, he did create jobs though. Several 100,000 new federal govt. jobs. Which of course, cost the taxpayers. So while he's a business man's nightmare, he's a big govt. hero.

Obama stopped working with congres when the Dems lost the majority in the House.

Obama passed a Stimulus that didn't work and a Health Care bill that is simply a huge tax increase.

The primary reason the economy isn't improving is because nobody smart enough to stay in business trusts the lying asshole in the Oval Office.

Name one jobs program Obama signed that created jobs in the private-sector.

BTW, when is the Senate gonna get off their asses and pass a budget??

Fact is nothing is getting done because the guy in charge can't get along with congress long enough to take care of these recurring problems. Immigration, the threat of another shutdown, the deficit, the debt. All have been put on the back burner while Obama continues to campaign rather than govern. Does anyone in their right mind want four more years of stagnation? Four more years of a corrupt DOJ? Four more years of crony captitalism and class-warfare?

1. It's a feature of human nature to try to shield oneself from the embarrassment of having supported, believed, bought-hook-line-and-sinker, an incompetent candidate....

....I understand it.

But to pretend you still have the faith you had in 2008, in the face of over three years of mistakes and ineptitude borders on the dishonest.

2. That being said....yours is an articulate, valiant attempt to retain whatever self-esteem you have left.
But it is feeble.
Insupportable.

3. "January 2009 there were 133,561,000 total..."

No..."According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are fewer people employed now than back in January 2009 when Barack Obama was sworn in as President, and there are more people unemployed now than in January 2009.

Back then, a reported 142 million people had jobs."
Not 133 million.....142 million!

a. Again, from the OP..."Employed, June 2012 142 million"

142 minus 142= ZERO!!!

Q.E.D. the empty suit in the White House created ZERO jobs.

4. Now, to put the stake in deeper....let's consider why it is even worse than ZERO.

a. The population of the United States when the 'great mistake' was made, 2008, was
303,202,683 January 9, 2008
What is the population of the US in 2008

Including the illegal alien population, the total was upwards of 315 million persons.

b. Population growth is about 1% annually.
Population growth (annual %) | Data | Table

So...we can estimate today's population at almost 333 million persons.

5. Ready?
How many jobs above the 142 million should the United States have at this time merely to have kept up with growth????

a. Answer: an additional 125 thousand per month since 2008.
That amounts to over 5 million jobs above the 142 million!!!!

Note: The slowdown in job growth has been stark. From December through February, the economy produced an average of 252,000 jobs a month, twice what is needed to keep up with population growth.
But the jobs generator started sputtering in March, when job growth slowed to 143,000.
Job growth continues to be weak - The Reporter

This incompetent has the nerve to claim 4 million new jobs created....when he has created ZERO!!!

And....he has left the United States with 5 million fewer jobs than necessary to merely stay in pace with population growth!!!

What a loser.

Don't you be a loser:
Do NOT vote for this guy again!!!!

This incompetent has the nerve to claim 4 million new jobs created....when he has created ZERO!!!

And....he has left the United States with 5 million fewer jobs than necessary to merely stay in pace with population growth!!!

Another typical con post. So, you blame the the dem pres who inherited a repub recession, largest since the 1930's (the last big repub depression) and laud the greatest effort to block progress by the repubs. Now, of course, you are unable to say what should have been done.

What are your suggestions for helping unemployment?? Have any of your suggestions, assuming that you have any, ever worked before in a bad economy?? if so, when?

Or, are you just passing out more tea party dogma??

In terms of employment, the private sector is smaller now than when Obama was sworn in. In January 2009, 110.9 million people were working in the (nonfarm) private sector, but by July 2011 there were only 109.9 million - despite the larger U.S. population in 2011.

I expect we'll gain back the next half-million by October so he'll have a around a net zero change going into re-election.

interesting, you believe that in the next 4 months we will average (by(?) October), so that leaves 3 months, well lets say 4, I think or assume you meant to include October so 125K a month for then next 4 months? certainly doable , but..not sure we will get there.

You guys don't understand...all of the loses was Boooshes fault.
All of the gains are the benefit of Obama.

At any rate, this all is very dependent on what manufacturing does in August/September.
If June was any indication of what is to come..net job loss is to be expected in October-December.

Since I voted for McCain and will vote for Romney in November, and have never been an Obama suporter, you're barking up the wrong tree. I'm dealing only with the facts.

3. "January 2009 there were 133,561,000 total..."

No..."According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are fewer people employed now than back in January 2009 when Barack Obama was sworn in as President, and there are more people unemployed now than in January 2009.

Not 133 million.....142 million!
Read again what I wrote: "January 2009 there were 133,561,000 total and 110,985,000 private sector non-farm pay roll jobs."

When Obama was talking about "Jobs" he was referring to the Official Jobs Numbers. This is a survey of about 486,000 worksites. The Universe is businesses that contribute to UI benefits. It excludes Agriculture, the self-employed, unpaid family workers, and people who work in other people's houses.

The 142 million you're referring to is Total Employment, which comes from a survey of approx 60,000 households and includes everyone 16 and older (except military).

The two surveys measure different things with slightly different time periods and will never match up. You can't just switch data sets and say one is inaccurate when another, which measures different things, says different things.

The reason that Non-Farm Payroll Jobs is preferred as the official measure is that because its sample size is so much larger, its error is a lot lower. The Jobs error is approx +/- 0.2% while Total Employment is approx +/- 0.4%

The low point for total employment was December 2009.
So: Jan 2009, Total Employment = 142,187,000
December 2009, Total Employment = 137,968,000: Loss of 4,219,000
June 2012, Total Employment = 142,415,000 Gain of 4,447,000
Total change Jan 2009 to Jun 2012 = +228,000

a. Again, from the OP..."Employed, June 2012 142 million"

142 minus 142= ZERO!!!

Q.E.D. the empty suit in the White House created ZERO jobs.
Really? I pointed out that for non-farm pay roll jobs he's still 500,000 SHORT, but you prefer it to be zero? (though it's really a quarter million up.

Illegal aliens are already included in the regular population figures. The Census doesn't ask about citizenship. There's probably a slight undercount but you can't just arbitrarily add in more.

b. Population growth is about 1% annually.
Population growth (annual %) | Data | Table

So...we can estimate today's population at almost 333 million persons.
Except using actual methodology it's 313,650,302 for June 2012 Census Population Estimates But you're using the wrong population numbers as I'll explain in a minute.

5. Ready?
How many jobs above the 142 million should the United States have at this time merely to have kept up with growth????

a. Answer: an additional 125 thousand per month since 2008.
That amounts to over 5 million jobs above the 142 million!!!!
You'd get an F in Statistics and Economics for that. The 313.7 million current population is Total Population...every man, woman, child. That's not useful for looking at the Labor Market because a large number of the total population cannot participate in the labor market due to legal or practical barriers. For Labor Market information, we use the Adult Civilian Non-Institutional Population. This excludes anyone under 16, in prison, in an institution, or in the military. In Jan 2008 it was 232,616,000 and in June 2012 it was 243,155,000 (a 4.5% increase).

So....in Jan 2008, the Population was 232,616,000 with 146,397,000 Employed (62.9%), In June 2012, Population was 243,155,000 with 142,415,000 Employed (58.6%) So by your math, if 62.9% of the population was still employed, that would mean there would be 153,030,000 employed, so we're 10.6 million short.

BUT....let's look at the number of people who did not want to work. In the BLS stats, there's Not in the Labor Force and a subset of NILF called "Persons who currently want to work". This subset is not classified as unemployed because they either haven't looked for work in the previous month or couldn't accept a job if offered. So subtracting them from total NILF gives us the number of people who don't want a job. In Jan 2008 there were 73,704,000 who didn't want to work and in June 2012 there were 81,472,000. That's a change of 7,768,000 And remember the population only went up 10.5 million.

So it's unrealistic to say the employment population ratio should remain the same when a much larger % of the population doesn't even want to work (from 31.7% to 33.5%)

This incompetent has the nerve to claim 4 million new jobs created....when he has created ZERO!!!
He said 4 million jobs had been created since February 2010 which is true. Your ZERO is from January 2009. You're switching time frames.

And....he has left the United States with 5 million fewer jobs than necessary to merely stay in pace with population growth!!!
And why is that important?

Do NOT vote for this guy again!!!!
I didn't vote for him last time.
