John F. Kennedy: Proclamation 3528 - Loyalty Day, 1963

By the President of the United States of America
A Proclamation
Dedication, devotion, and loyalty to our country and to the free democratic precepts upon which it was founded has always been a cherished tradition with our people-from our Founding Fathers to our servicemen now serving in the far-flung corners of the world. Understandably, our people avoid ostentatious displays of patriotic fervor. Nevertheless, in these trying times, when international forces are attempting to undermine and destroy our form of free government and our way of life, it is entirely fitting and proper and in the national interest to set aside a special day each year on which to express our unceasing devotion and loyalty to this Nation. To this end, the Congress, by a joint resolution of July 18, 1958 (72 Stat. 369), has designated May 1 of each year as Loyalty Day and has requested the President to issue a proclamation inviting the people of the United States to observe that day with appropriate ceremonies.

Now, Therefore, I, John F. Kennedy, President of the United States of America do hereby call upon the people of the United States, and upon all patriotic, civic, and educational organizations to observe Wednesday, May 1, 1963, as Loyalty Day, in schools and other suitable places with appropriate ceremonies in which all of our people may join in a reaffirmation of their loyalty to the United States of America.

I also call upon appropriate officials of the Government to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on that day as a manifestation of our loyalty to the Nation which that flag symbolizes.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States of America to be affixed.

DONE at the City of Washington this 18th day of April in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the United States of America the one hundred and eighty-seventh.

I'd be just as outraged if Reagan demanded loyalty to our government as I would any other president. We understand YOU are blinded by a cult of personality, but that doesn't mean your projection onto us is valid OR true.

Ronald Reagan: Proclamation 4836 - Loyalty Day, 1981

But the understanding of a pseudo-con is not much understanding at all. Every president make this proclaimation every year. Demanding? It is not, but when all you've got is lies to go with you do what you can right Big Fitzie?
What precisely IS a "Pseudo Con"? Is it supposed to be an insult or a compliment for being a lib?

pseudo-conservative

A person who claims to be guided by and a follower of conservative ideals and principals, but in reality they are primarily and mostly just the opposite. While they may take a conservative stance on a few or more issues, and even speak in conservative terms and espouse conservative core ideas, they are in reality individuals who at their core are functionally anti-conservative. They are a very self contradicted group of individuals.

A good reference group to look at that exemplifies pseudo-conservatism is the neocons. Neocons more often than not espouse ideas such as being "pro-life", pro-Constitution, pro-America, pro-freedom, pro-liberty, and pro-democracy. They will also espouse the idea of "smaller government". However, in reality, the policies they support and implement are in direct contrast and conflict with those stated positions and ideals. They are also more often than not blindly pro-war, under any situation and circumstance.

A few of many notable examples of pseudo-conservative neocons are...

George H.W. Bush

George W. Bush

Dick Chaney

Mitt Romney

Rich Santorum

Newt Gingrich

Michele Bachmann

Sean Hannity

Mark Levin

Bill O'Reilly

I dare you to read both Kennedy's and Reagan"s proclamations. They both state loyalty to the NATION, not the government. Big difference, which our socialist President cannot understand, nor apparently his rabid followers.

Pay attention. If you'll notice, the OP is one of the left and most everyone in this thread is arguing against his idiocy.

Don't be so blinded, Boo.

They all pledge allegence to the Republic. President Obama's proclamation last year is no different.

I really don't care whose side the OP is on, it's still ridiculous to take this as some kind of nefarious proclamation because it was done by President Obama.

In reading Obama's proclamation, it is similar to Reagan's and Kennedy's. None of them call for a pledge of loyalty to the government, rather to the nation, Constitution etc. The thread's author occupied, is apparently not educated as to the difference and created much to do about nothing. Good observation on your part Boo.

Riiiight. You are calling those who see it the same way as you idiots because of their leaning.

There are now and always will be individuals who feel they owe no loyalty to any government just to themselves. They have mistaken the idea that America is a nation of individuals to mean that it should be every man for himself. The idea that we are a nation of individuals means each person has the individual right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I find it funny that a leftist is trying to tell conservatives what is and is not conservatism. Here's the simple test. If I agree with you, in most cases I'm not making a conservative choice. Then again, not all conservative choices are good, and most liberal choices are bad. But there are those freakish 'blind squirrel finds a nut' moments when they are correct.

Secondly, when have I been anything BUT small government and fiscal responsibility?

Since Eisenhower with the exception of LBJ...

"I call upon all the people of the United States to join in support of this national observance, whether by displaying the flag of the United States or pledging allegiance to the Republic for which it stands."

So one should not pledge their allegiance to their country?

Funny, as I recall when Bush was President anything like this would have been loudly booed by the left and Democrats as unamerican. Something about undue Nationalism being bad for the Country.

Presidential Proclamation--Loyalty Day

When our Nation's Founders adopted the Declaration of Independence, they pledged to build a government that represented America's highest ideals, a Union that secured its people's sacred rights by "deriving [its] just powers from the consent of the governed." From the Revolutionary War to the formation of our young country, our Founders' commitment to this principle never wavered. In the fall of 1787, America launched its improbable experiment in democracy, embedding in our Constitution the core values of liberty, equality, and justice for all.

Throughout our proud history, Americans motivated by loyalty and fidelity to these principles have worked to perfect our Union. Our Constitution grants Americans unprecedented freedoms and opportunities. We are free to speak our minds, worship as we please, choose our leaders, and criticize them when we disagree. The liberties enshrined in our founding documents define us as a people and a Nation, ensuring that every American with the drive to work hard and play by the rules has the chance to build a better life for their children and grandchildren.

For over two centuries, Americans have looked with pride and devotion on a Nation that reflects its people's highest moral aspirations. On this day, we celebrate our brave men and women in uniform and honor those who gave their lives to keep our country safe and free. We also reflect on the contributions of patriotic civilians united by an understanding that citizenship is not just a collection of rights, but also a set of responsibilities.

The ideals upheld by our forebears have stirred the resolute devotion of the American people and inspired hope in the hearts of people from across the globe. With trust in a future that keeps faith with our history, we remain true to the promise of America and the spirit that unites us all.

In order to recognize the American spirit of loyalty and the sacrifices that so many have made for our Nation, the Congress, by Public Law 85-529 as amended, has designated May 1 of each year as "Loyalty Day." On this day, let us reaffirm our allegiance to the United States of America, our Constitution, and our founding values.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2011, as Loyalty Day. This Loyalty Day, I call upon all the people of the United States to join in support of this national observance, whether by displaying the flag of the United States or pledging allegiance to the Republic for which it stands.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-ninth day of April, in the year of our Lord two thousand eleven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fifth.

BARACK OBAMA

No surprise since we serve the government and they dont serve us like our forefathers meant it to be so its no wonder he wants us to do so.

One of Bush's proclamations for LOYALTY DAY:

Proclamation 7671 - Wikisource

I don't know but the OP is one of your's it's the title of the thread that most are getting upset over.

Obama calls for all Americans to pledge their loyalty to the government!

obama never said that if you're upset maybe you should direct it to the OP for lying.
As a matter of fact I don't recall any president telling people to pledge their loyalty to the government.
