Obama, in blow to closing Guantanamo, signs law

By Alister Bull Alister Bull – Fri Jan 7, 10:04 pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama, in a setback to hopes for the quick closing of the Guantanamo Bay prison, reluctantly signed a bill on Friday barring suspects held there from being brought to the United States for trial.

Making plain he would fight to repeal language in the law obstructing civilian U.S. trials for Guantanamo terrorism suspects, Obama said he was left with no choice but to sign the defense authorization act for fiscal 2011.

But you see he was "left with no choice" and was "reluctant". That's all that matters to some, how you "feel" at the time you break promises.

I'm sure he was all sad about it, too.

Does he even care that public opinion, even bipartisan opinion is so heavily stacked against him on this?

    Survey says no.........

Many Democrats believe politicians lying to the voters/American people is perfectly acceptable, even to be expected...

    So really... no big thing..

SO in other words the LAW says that he can't try them in the US so he chooses not to bring them stateside where as of now nothing can be done with them anyway and meanwhile he states that he will "fight to repeal language in the law" that is preventing him from doing so and you actually believe that is a promise broken??

So what should he do with those prisoners that he can't try?? Do you have any other options to offer or do your talking points stop at criticizing the president for NOTviolating the law and trying to correct what is preventing him from fulfilling his promise??

It was a poison pill, added to the defense budget bill.

If he vetoed the bill, you'd have accused him of not keeping us safe and risking homeland security.

Republicans knew he would have to sign it. And they knew some of you suckers would believe some spin story that you people are spouting.

It was a poison pill and Obama immediately stated that he will work with congress to change this amendment.

It was a Republican amendment. To say Obama broke a promise is so completely dishonest, you should feel dirty.

I've found that right wingers really do love lies. They love to believe them, they love to tell them. They just flat out adore them.

And they have an aversion to the truth. They don't really ever tell us anything positive. They don't have positive ideas about how to solve the problems of America. They have tricks like this poison pill. They say the number one thing to do is make sure Obama is a one term pres. They are the party of hell no you can't. And they take simple facts and twist them so hard, they seem like the opposite of what they really are.

They are master manipulators and negative assholes, to tell the truth.

Let's try some common sense and logic, k?

UNTIL HE OFFICIALLY CLOSES GITMO, HE WILL REMAIN IN VIOLATION OF THAT PROMISE. No matter how he phrases, or spins it.

    Understand now?
