BRIT HUME: The only thing I can think of is that he believes that Hagel is a kind of maverick, would not drink the kool-aid as the White House may see it on Pentagon, military spending and so on. That he would be a counterforce over there and not an advocate for the armed forces in a way that even Leon Panetta has become.

You know, the warnings that we're hearing, for example, about the affect of the sequester, so-called, on the Pentagon, the dire warnings, have come from Panetta, not from the White House you'll notice. The President isn't going around warning about that, Leon Panetta is.

Iran says it's hopeful on Hagel nomination
January 8, 2013 — Iran's Foreign Ministry says it is hopeful the appointment of former Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel to lead the Pentagon would improve relations between Tehran and the U.S.
Asked about Hagel's nomination, ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that Tehran was hopeful that there would be "practical changes" to U.S. foreign policy, and that nations would change their attitude towards the U.S. if it respected their rights.

Hagel was nominated Monday and faces tough confirmation hearings. Critics have said he is hostile toward Israel and soft on Iran.

Washington and Tehran have no diplomatic relations since 1979 when Iranian militants stormed the U.S embassy and took American diplomats hostages.

Tensions have spiked over America's belief that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapon, a charge Iran denies.

McConnell takes wait-and-see approach on Hagel
Sun, Jan 6, 2013 WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate's top Republican says he'll need to take a close look at what former Sen. Chuck Hagel — who's the front-runner to be the next defense secretary — has said in the past on Israel and Iran.
Sen. Mitch McConnell says that the next Pentagon chief must have a complete understanding of the U.S. relationship with ally Israel and the threat from Iran.

Some of Hagel's former Senate colleagues have questioned his pronouncements on Iraq, Israel and the Middle East. McConnell tells ABC's "This Week" that Hagel "has certainly been outspoken" on certain foreign policy matters.

McConnell says that if Hagel is nominated, he wants to see if the former Nebraska senator's views "make sense for that particular job."

Chuck Hagel on al Jazeera "America needs to stop being the world's bully!"

Barack Obama, as characterized by Dineesh D"Souza, regards America as a rogue colonial bull elephant loose in a china shop.

Sounds like we have two peas in a pod here.

Might I suggest that Mr Hagel take his boyfriend's dick out of his mouth before characterizing America as the "World's bully". We were firmly at peace the morning of September 11, 2001.

"The American soldier fights, not for the lust of conquest, but to liberate!" FDR. Nothing's changed since then.

If Hagel turns out to be a counterforce to the military/industrial complex and business as usual at DOD, what's wrong with that?
