It lowered them year after year. That's precisely what its competitors complained about and lobbied Congress to put a stop to.

And Standard Oil did in fact raise it's prices, in areas where they held a monopoly.

I would suggest reading the actual Supreme court anti-trust decision concerning Standard Oil, as opposed to Ann Coutler's interpretation. You might learn a thing or two.

Here is where the prosecution established that the price of REFINED oil (not crude oil) rose by 45%, in comparison to a 23% price increase of other commodities during the period from 1895 to 1906.

During the same period, the price of crude oil was flat, as can be seen here:

On May 15, 1911, the US Supreme Court upheld the lower court judgment and declared the Standard Oil group to be an "unreasonable" monopoly under the Sherman Antitrust Act, Section II.

No, that isn't a monopoly. Standard Oil had hundreds of competitors. It charged the lowest price for Kerosene. Furthermore, after Edison invented the light bulb, there was competition from that industry. Standard Oil also had to compete with the Russians who were opening vast oil fields around Baku.

I tried wading through that mess, but nowhere did I find the text that states what you claim. A cursory reading indicates the data to support the claim is not good. Furthermore, anyone who trusts the claims of lawyers and politicians with regard to economic data is a fool.

Also, that was the period when Standard Oil had to compete with cheap oil from Russia. There's no way it could engage in so-called "monopoly pricing" and maintain it's share of the global market.

The undeniable fact is that prior to standard oil, Kerosene sold for about $0.50/gal. By 1870 it was selling for about $0.052/gal. It stayed close to that level for decades. Prior to Standard Oil, Americans went to bed when it got dark. Thanks to Standard Oil they could stay up and make use of their night time hours.
