Democrats and Charity - Obama and Biden "give" some-ish

Category: Presidential Politics
The fact that Barack Obama gave next to nothing to charity before he started running for President has been known for some time, and nothing new for Democrats. But Obama, even in his cheap years, made Joe Biden looking like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Biden has never given 1 full percent of his and his wife's income to charity, not even close. Byron York from National Review has a great story about it here. Note how the spokesman has to twist and spin to try and say basically that Biden is poor (making only $2.5 million in the last 10 years. How he survives on that paltry sum is anyone's guess.) and can't afford to give more. But he also says that the Bidens don't report all of their donations, specifically to their church, for reasons unknown. If times are so tight in the Biden house, why wouldn't they take all the deductions to which they are entitled? Strange.

But the true moral of the story is the fact that Democrats want and expect the government to step up and handle the things charities do much more effectively and efficiently. These two guys won't donate their money to causes they support but they do seek to impose upon you and everyone else the power of government to seize your earnings to mandate you do the things they refuse to do voluntarily.

This is typical liberalism, when they see a problem they'd rather impose upon the liberty of other than actually step up and work to solve the problem themselves. In their world people can't solve problems, only the government can. Their world does not exist anywhere on this planet, but why let the facts get in the way of a good story?

No one gives a crap.

Yep the lefties want to believe everything that comes out of Obama's mouth. They refuse to look at his record. He is a stingy greedy politician and his record proves it. He is all about helping the little guy if he is spending somebody else's money or is he really about helping the little guy? Careful you might be looking at his record.

Here is a summary of the figures:

What is surprising, given the recent controversy over Obama's membership in the Trinity United Church of Christ, is how little the Obamas apparently gave to charity -- well short of the biblical 10% tithe for all seven years. In two of the years, the Obamas gave far less than 1% of their income to charity; in three of the years, they gave around 1% of their income to charity. Only in the last two years have they given substantially more as their income skyrocketed -- 4.7% in 2005 and 6.1% in 2006. (Of course, it is possible that the Obamas may have made gifts to other worthy causes that were not deductible for federal income tax purposes.)

Thought this might add to the conversation.

Could have something to do with his personal discretionary spending abilities increasing.. Am I the only one who think charitable donation analysis is frankly disgusting...

Noblesse oblige is rightfully dead my friends...

Obama has been accused of being a socialist in this hard fought presidential campaign. It is true that his childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA; he carefully chose Marxist professors as friends in college (from own memoirs); and he also knew Bill Ayers an avowed Marxist and terrorist, but he has denied having socialist leanings. That should settle the matter.

Socialists do not care for the people. They use idealism to further their own ends. Look at Lenin, Stalin and the head of the national socialist party of Germany in the thirties. What was his name? Adolf? All socialists. All duped the people.

When are we going to learn that there is not enough money to go around to make socialism work. If you take money from those who earn the money – the workers – to give to those who do not have, the workers will catch on and quit working so that they can have what the non-workers have – a free vacation.

Classic socialism doesn't believe in private charity.

The classic socialist believes that its the government's job to solve social problems, and that leaving it up to the charity of the public is actually counter productive.

I don't ascribe to that theory, of course, but in this supposedly wealthiest nation on earth, one would think that the American people shouldn't have to depend on the kindness of strangers for their daily bread.
