Obama Administration On Libya Attacks: They Knew, So What Are They Hiding?

Fresh claims that U.S. intelligence officials knew practically from the start that the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was terrorism possibly tied to Al Qaeda have lawmakers alleging they were misled and questioning whether the administration has something to hide.

"This is turning into something not short of Benghazi-gate," Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., told Fox News, adding he's "very suspicious" about the way the administration has handled this.

Two senior U.S. officials told Fox News on Thursday that U.S. intelligence officials knew within 24 hours of the assault that it was a terrorist attack and suspected Al Qaeda-tied elements were involved.

The account sharply conflicted with claims by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice on the Sunday after the attack that the administration believed the strike was a "spontaneous" event triggered by protests in Egypt over an anti-Islam film.

They administration knew and misled the American public and the world with their actions and comments. Just what did they know BEFORE these attacks? Congress and the people want to know. It’s time for them to come clean with all documents and correspondence from the Ambassador and Libya.

"They Knew, So What Are They Hiding?"

Funny, how the rest of us knew, they knew, and were lying. :eusa_hand:

Yes, they knew and I personally want to know if they could have protected these four men. I think this is what they are hiding.

And now . . . just reported on Fox New Channel: The FBI, which the administration said right away was going to investigate "the crime scene" in Benghazi have never gone there.

Talk about a cold crime scene. It was wide open to reporters and someone from CNN found and removed Chris Stevens personal Journal, and were using it as a source for reports.

Had the FBI gotten there right away, as some were saying, you'd have to wonder how the CNN reporter could've gotten it.

As reported this evening (27 September) government spokespersons told Fox News that it was "too dangerous to send our people there."
So the claims by administration people that "it's under investigation" to quell questions is a sham.

There is no investigation other than what the Libyans are doing.

Question for ya: Have you heard this reported by any other news source other than FNC?

Great post, Horse. And what is the FBI doing investigating this? Isn't that for national investigations? All good questions.

It wasn't a job for the FBI. And the Rapid Response Force of 50 US Marines we first heard were going to Benghazi, didn't make it into there either; they got waylaid in Tripoli, the capital, where they were actually intended to go.

Today, secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said that "it took a while, but he has concluded the attack at Benghazi was terrorism" Coming so long after the attack on the 11th (two full weeks), he seems to be giving the administration cover. In other words, it wasn't obvious to him specifically, who was responsible which to me sound like weasel-words.

"With regard to the specific issue of who was responsible for the Benghazi attack, as everybody in the administration has said, we can't go beyond our preliminary statements until we have the results of the FBI investigation," the State Department official said.
Panetta: Terrorists planned Benghazi attack

Finally:
The intelligence officials who spoke to The Daily Beast did so anonymously because they weren’t authorized to speak to the press. They said U.S. intelligence agencies developed leads on four of the participants of the attacks within 24 hours of the fire fight that took place mainly at an annex near the Benghazi consulate.

For one of those individuals, the U.S. agencies were able to find his location after his use of social media. “We had two kinds of intelligence on one guy,” this official said. “We believe we had enough to target him.”
Another U.S. intelligence official said, “There was very good information on this in the first 24 hours. These guys have a return address. There are camps of people and a wide variety of things we could do.”

A spokesman for the National Security Council declined to comment for the story. But another U.S. intelligence official said, “I can’t get into specific numbers but soon after the attack we had a pretty good bead on some individuals involved in the attack."

He knew he failed to protect them; their blood was on his hands. He was dilatory; he was hoping it was happenstance, but when the preponderance was realized, he tried the balancing act - he went to Vegas to get his mind off of it - disgusting. This is our leader? Now there is no answer that's politically
expedient so don't expect one!

No ‘Chatter’

Security at the Libyan facilities was considered adequate, the official said.

Mike Rogers

Representative Mike Rogers, a Michigan Republican and chairman of the House intelligence committee, told CNN there was no sign of intelligence “chatter” leading up to the Benghazi consulate attack that would have warned U.S. officials to take extra precautions.

When it comes to providing security for U.S. embassies and consulates, the U.S. doesn’t have sole responsibility.

The 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations established that the host country of an embassy or consulate “is under a special duty to take all appropriate steps to protect the premises of the mission against any intrusion or damage.”

Official warned about deteriorating security situations before fatal Benghazi attack

Jamal Mabrouk, a member of the February 17th Brigade and a local security official in Libya said that he had warned American diplomats in Libya three days before the deadly assault on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi. Mabrouk has gone on record as warning U.S. diplomats about the deteriorating security within the city.

Mabrouk has told CNN that both he and a battalion commander had a meeting about the economy and security, saying that the security situation wasn't good for international business.

"The situation is frightening, it scares us," Mabrouk told the U.S. officials.

Mabrouk says there has been an increasing presence of armed jihadist groups in the Benghazi area.

Maybe that doesn't qualify as "chatter" that would get to our CIA/NSA, but there was fair warning.

That is MORE than chatter...that was a warning. Everyone screwed up here and covering their butts. It's going to come out and perhaps they will be paying attention in the White House so this isn't repeated. But I have my doubts.

If this was bush in the white house it would be non stop 24 hour bashing by the media. Hopefully when romney is elected they will pay.
