Obama administration guts work requirements for Clinton-era welfare reform

From the top we have the wealthiest organizations and groups as special interest that have tremendous influence in what officials do when they are in Washington. Much more influence than the citizenry they pretend to represent.

From the bottom...we are on our way to creating a dependent class whose votes determine whether they continue to get free handouts and cash.

In the middle is the rest of us. The ones paying for it all and who are powerless to affect either of the two above.

This is America.

The Administration for Children and Families took this charge seriously and held a series of consultation meetings with states, tribes, and territories on a variety of topics including TANF. During those consultations, many jurisdictions expressed a strong interest in greater flexibility in TANF and indicated that greater flexibility could be used by states to improve program effectiveness. We also heard concerns that some TANF rules stifle innovation and focus attention on paperwork rather than helping parents find jobs. States offered a range of suggestions for ways in which expanded flexibility could lead to more effective employment outcomes for families. Two states – Utah and Nevada – submitted written comments that specifically identified waivers as one mechanism for testing new approaches to promoting employment and self-sufficiency, and a number of others states – including California, Connecticut, and Minnesota - have asked about the potential for waivers.

Flexibility for states to try alternative approaches to achieving the work goals of TANF?

So I suppose that means Obama has now converted the right into stanch advocates of inflexible federal rules and visceral opponents of state-level innovation. Perhaps next he can endorse Romney to ensure that the rightwing votes Obama en masse.

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program is not food stamps. It is about 200 a month in cash.

Yeah, Had a guy working for me, While living with his GF that got that. Actually she got 600 a Month in Cash assistance in Total. Really helped her and her Boyfriend (who she of course never told DHS lived with her and made good money, and paid most of her bills) support their Pot, and Riddilin Habits.

So I know, why don't we remove even more of the Barriers and make it even easier to abuse the system, Until it collapsed and is not there to help the people who really need and Deserve it.
You should talk to your legislators at the state level as clearly your state is not doing a good job of policing its own program.

The Marxist dictator has bypassed Congress so many times, we've lost count (dictated that the US government will ignore the law and will not allow the proper prosecution of young illegal aliens among countless others), has spit in the face of the Supreme Court so many times, we've lost count (after ruling on SB1070, Obama instructed Homeland Security to ignore calls from Arizona with regards to illegal aliens), and has ignored the will of the American peope so many times, we've lost count (the extremely unpopular Obamacare being the biggest of course). And now the latest - ignoring our entire system of government to change a law that signed by Democrat Bill Clinton!

The imperial Presidency has overturned Congress and the law again. Not content to stop at rewriting immigration policy, education policy and energy policy, yesterday, President Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released an official policy directive rewriting the welfare reform law of 1996. The new policy guts the federal work requirements that were the foundation of the Clinton-era reform.

The Heritage Foundation? You’ve got to be kidding.

The entire op-ed is full of lies, distortions, and spin.

And as far as ‘gutting’ work requirements for welfare recipients, that’s utter nonsense, as participation in work programs such as community service, job search, or vocational training, are still required for ongoing eligibility:

A central component of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program is its emphasis on work. Adult TANF recipients, with some exceptions, must participate in work activities as a condition of receiving cash benefits.

Obama guts welfare reform*

"Republicans are accusing the Obama administration of unilaterally gutting welfare reform after the Department of Health and Human Services quietly notified states that they may seek a waiver for the program's strict work requirements.*

HHS made the announcement in a policy memo Thursday, news that slipped well below the radar amid a raucous day on the presidential campaign trail. But a few prominent GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill picked up on the change, and accused the administration of overhauling one of the most important bipartisan agreements of the past several decades.*

"President Obama just tore up a basic foundation of the welfare contract" Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said in a statement. He also called the move a "blatant violation of the law."*

Welfare reform was an act of Congress but to the King, congress doesn't really matter.

We all kept telling you that the Health Care Act was about complete control over us the people and government, but none of you listened nor will you see it for what it really is.

Obama thinks he can do whatever he wants, damn the consequences. Boy...is he in for a rude awakening.
