US Treasury asks Congress to lift debt ceiling

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner asked Congress to raise the US debt ceiling Thursday, firing the starting gun on a fresh political battle over the country's massive deficit.

In a letter the Senate's top legislator, Geithner asked for permission to increase the national debt from the 14.29 trillion dollar limit set last year.

You didn't care while Bush added 6 trillion to the national debt. There was NOT A PEEP from the right, in fact it was 6 years of Republicans HOUSE and SENATE where all this debt was laid out, 2 wars, medicare part d, tax cuts - all ongoing debt. Republicans voted for all these things, all unpaid for, all added to the debt, and we never heard a word about it from the right.
