Oath Keepers' newborn taken by state

Last Night John Irish & Stephanie Janvrin had their new born baby girl taken away by government officials because of their involvement with Oath Keepers, a non violent constitutional organization. According to Irish, The Director of Security and the Head Nurse of the Hospital said "we want the paediatrician to check the baby in the nursery so that you can go home." The baby was wheeled out in the bassinet under the protest of Irish. Irish followed them out and took note of 3-4 men wearing suits with detective badges as well as 3 police officers.

The Division of Family Child Services proceeded to pat down John and inform the parents they would be taking the daughter. "They Stole our Child" says John Irish. An Affidavit was produced that claimed an affiliation with a militia called Oath Keepers. Irish claims Oath Keepers is a non violent organization. John and Stephanie were able to spend a few minutes with their daughter and were forced to leave. A security officer escorted the two out of the hospital.

This story is so bizarre that I hope it is not true. However, if we presume that the parents affiliation with the Oath Keepers is their only offense, what does everyone think of this?

I'm going to guess, given the nature of the "source" that that's barely even part of the story.

But the only place I found it so far is a couple of rightwingnut blogs.

I think for nowI'll assume there's a lot more that of a reason for them to take the child.

Good point. I also tried to find a more legitimate source, but could not. One would think this would be fairly big news if it were true, but then again I don't trust the MSM very much any more. And I also know that family services does not speak with the media because of confidentiality laws. So the only side we can expect to hear is the parents.

Here in NJ, mothers who fail drug tests at the hospital will immediately lose their child. That's really the only reason I have heard of antecdotally.

I am NOT down with that, and I don't care if she was a DRUG addict, which is the worst thing I could think of.

Babies need to hear their mothers heart beat, once they're OUTSIDE of her.

It's their anchor, the ONE thing they know better than they know themselves.

If it's 'cuz of the parents ~ and actually, PromiseKeepers is a MALE part of Christianity,

how they PROMISE, to their God, to care for and love their own ~

being Promise Keepers?

There is an update at dailyteaparty.com. Apparently there are other "serious allegations" as well. (Sorry - I can't post the link on my phone.) I'm still curious what those reasons might be. The mother has two other children.

UPDATE : 10/07/2010 10.53PM PST -- We have confirmed that the affidavit in support of the order to take the child from her parents states ,along with a long list of other assertions against both parents, that “The Division became aware and confirmed that Mr. Irish associated with a militia known as the Oath Keepers.” Yes, there are other, very serious allegations. Out of respect for the privacy of the parents, we will not publish the affidavit. We will leave that to Mr. Irish. But please do remember that allegations do not equal facts -- they are merely allegations (and in my experience as a criminal defense lawyer in small town Montana I saw many allegations that proved to be false).

Here is a comment on the oathkeepers website (posted in previous post of mine) He said this:

Alright everyone, I apologize that I never singed up on the new site. I never had 5 free minutes to, my fiancee had a rough pregnancy to say the least so I had to drop from the ranks. Yes, Stewart has the documents that I had faxed to him and no it is not mis-information. Celia, I know you are only hearing “one side” but you are hearing the TRUTH, there entire affidavit is nothing but false claims with not back bone or evidence what so ever. They have fabricated lies upon fabricated lies, the only evidence they have is what comes out of there mouth, they have nothing to provide to substantiate they ridiculous hollow claims I honestly don’t understand how the hell the did this my head is still spinning, it feels like I am in a VERY bad dream that won’t end. Thank you all for your support, I need to get in with her. She hasn’t stopped balling her eyes out for about 12 hours now.

I mean, THAT's why we go THERE, rather than the other, more lucrative venues we COULD pursue.
