Here's the real problem, there are 11 million undocumented people here, about 2 million brought here as children and really have never lived anywhere else.

Our system can only really deport about 400,000 a year, between the willingness of their home countries to take them back, and doing all the hearings and such. We don't have the space to lock the rest up waiting for hearings.

So... we have to make a judgement call. Who do you go after. The person who is playing by the rules and is assimilating from childhood, or the guy who just arrived and committed a bunch of real crimes?

On Saturday night, residents of Oakland received an urgent message from Mayor Libby Schaaf.

Schaaf said she had heard from multiple sources that immigration agents would be conducting enforcement operations "starting as soon as within the next 24 hours" and urged those here illegally to take precautions.

The message stunned many. On Monday, some of that surprise turned to confusion and anger as large-scale immigration sweeps did not materialize.

You could end the "illegal" problem pretty easily. Go after the people who hire them.
