NYT: Republicans Demand Romney Release More Tax Returns

“As father, as son” applies to Romney’s tax returns
July 16, 2012

Over 40 years ago, George Romney, then governor of Michigan, began a political tradition by releasing his tax returns for the 12 previous years during his bid for the presidency in 1968. His motive was simple, according to Vice-President Joe Biden: “When [Mitt Romney's] father, George Romney, was a presidential candidate, he released 12 years of tax returns because, as he said, ‘One year could be a fluke, perhaps done for show.’”

In a bit of sweet irony, Mitt Romney is undoing the old adage of “like father, like son” by refusing to release his tax reports dating before 2010 .....

If George Romney set a precedent in 1968 by releasing 12 years worth of tax returns, it was to force candidates like his son to lay out all their cards for all to see.

When all is said and done, its becoming painfully obvious that it was George who was first in line when the political "brains" were being passed out in the Romney family.

Despite all the advantages of a Harvard education, the Massachusetts governorship, his Bain business experience and being exposed to state/national politics at an early age, why is "Willard" (Mitt) such a slow learner?

And George admitted to being brainwashed.

When did Romney step down from Bain? When did obama stop snorting cocaine? Or did he, ever?

Yes, Romney should release the last 20 years. Then turn around and demand Obama to release the fast and furious docs, college records, ect.

He should, but will he? There must be more damaging info in his tax returns than in F&F.

Why "should" he?

He has already released all financial documents required by law.

And BTW Carter and Reagan only released one year as candidates.

This is just another red herring to gin up the hoi polloi

Claudette Disagrees With NYT. Is Romney A Felon?

What a bunch of bullshit.

WOW guess you guys on the left think Barrys a fucking saint?? Perhaps you should be pushing to investigate that shyster. Loads of unanswered questions concerning him and yet you think Romney needs investigating?? Perhaps your own house needs cleaning first.

Gotta LMAO at you idiots. Here you are trying to make hay out of Bain. What a crock. Companies have been outsourcing since the 70's. They will continue to outsource as long as the climate in this country remains the same.

You might want to start asking questions about Immelt. Barrys Jobs Tzar. The CEO of GE which has outsources and is continuing to outsource. Barrys bud Jeff. Yep Guess thats okay though. After all Barry is THE ONE and you think anything he does is great for the country.

Oh and BTW I figure if Romney could run Bain successfully he could sure as hell run the country with as much success.

He can run it far more successfully than the idiot in chief has done.

Hey stupid! The NYT say
s "Republicans Demand Romney Release More Tax Returns"

You know, Dante checked Google search engine: Most every single right winger with an internet connection is quoting a Newsmax story that uses a NYT story as evidence of fact, final word, don't pass go?

too funny

Best part is they ALL use the Newsmax Headline as if it is the actual NYT Headline

:thewave:

right wing is now on record saying the NYT is the definitive voice? Oh, this is precious. :D

* you poor imbecile, running a government is not the same as running a business.

Jeeze. Thought all you lefties wanted all of Romneys tax returns?? Kinda using this story as a jumping board for that to happen??

Experience running a successfull business sure can't hurt when your running a country. Unfortuanetly the current shyster in chief has never even held a real job.

Hell if Romney released his tax returns then Barry should follow suite and release all his college transcripts. Wonder what we will find in em. Nobody seals records without a damned good reason. Wonder what Barrys is??

Of course none of you Barry worshipers want to know now do you??

just another red herring

Mitt Romney and backers use ‘day-to-day’ to reshape questions about Bain
the straw-man attack articulated by former George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove -- “that [Romney] didn’t take a leave of absence to go run the Olympic Committee and continued to run Bain.”

The real question is not about whether Romney had day-to-day involvement with Bain Capital but about whether he had any involvement at all.

Rove noted correctly that like Jobs, Romney stepped away from the day-to-day decisions of his company.

The questions now are coming from people who suspect Romney’s leave of absence resembled that of Jobs, who continued to participate in major Apple moments, such as the release of the iPad 2 and the company’s Mac Lion operating system.

really? is that what right wing paranoia tells you?

Why some people do not release any old records right wing whacky world asks for.
After the election, on May 20, 2005, he did sign a Standard Form 180 allowing full release of all his military service records,[75] including his reserve and discharge records, as well as his medical records, to the Associated Press, the Boston Globe, and the Los Angeles Times. Kerry refused a request from the New York Sun to permit the Sun's reporters to inspect the records.[76] The Boston Globe reported that the material largely duplicated what Kerry had released during the campaign, and included no "substantive new material".[77]

Asked why he had declined to sign the release earlier, Kerry responded:
“ The call for me to sign a 180 form came from the same partisan operatives who were lying about my record on a daily basis on the Web and in the right-wing media. Even though the media was discrediting them, they continued to lie. I felt strongly that we shouldn't kowtow to them and their attempts to drag their lies out.
[77][78]

and people are asking Romney to release more of his tax records, not as many as his dear old dad did -- setting a precedent.

that other thread should be renamed/properly named "Newsmaxx reports..."

The GOP iPad is a Newsmaxxi pad?

see where Romney has the audacity to use this line of attack in Pennsylvania today:

Romney told a Pittsburgh-area crowd that "he's ashamed" that Obama "hands out money to the businesses of campaign contributors."

This from a Vulture Capitalist who took good paying American jobs and shipped them overseas so his crony capitalist pals could make a few more dollars.

The fact that this topic even exists and we're spending time discussing it is a plus for Obama and a minus for Romney.

I find it hard to believe that Romney, who has been conducting one continuous presidential campaign, since he lost in the primaries to McCain in 2008,wcouldn't have predicted that a multimillionaire, like himself, would be a "lightningrod" for criticism and defused the issue by releasing his tax returns long ago.

Instead of being put on the defensive, Romney should have followed his father's example long ago, released the last 12 years of returns and now be hammering away at Obama as to why America's economic recovery has stalled (dithering by the European Union which neither presidential candidate can control - but that's another story).

There is no political upside to prolonging the inevitable.

Romney on Tax Returns: ‘I’m Simply Not Enthusiastic about Giving Them Hundreds or Thousands of More Pages to Pick Through, Distort, and Lie About’

How many fucking pages? Hundreds or thousands? Thousands? Is that for 1 or 2 years?

What the hell is in Romney's tax returns?

Like with the Newsmax/NYT link story, I followed the Huff/National Review link story

Better headline and story.
