Calm down seymor. I never looked at the bus thread. I haven't looked at most of the current shooter threads either. I don't slow down to look at accidents on the freeway either. Fascination with death and killing is a preoccupation with those who have no experience dealing with it personally. I try to remain objective enough to learn from the incident. And ya...If I had a kid that rode the "bus" I would get him or her to school by some other means...Looks like a real nasty revenge scene in waiting to me.

If he was "harassed about his Muslim religion" by his fellow soldiers, it was because he made comments they couldn't abide. He was a Major and had been in long enough (reported from one source, at least 10 years) to know better. He was transferred from a sheltered DC working environment, and found himself to be too confrontational and too brittle to make it in his military mission.

His eventual transfer to Iraq, which was in process of happening, stirred him to open up about how he felt about our presence there, and particularly his opposition. He must have thought that making his feelings known would extricate him from going. He let his own strong feelings grow to irrationality and eventually into a kind of insanity.

His striking out in my own estimation is the kind especially prone to the juvenile mind or the juvenile state of mind. which for some (IMO) is a kind of temporary insanity of feeling oppressed. Yet he was 39 years of age, he had accepted years of training in psychiatry which obligated him to his military service... His training should have prepared him, and still he could not cope.

One wonders what kept him from being detected before all this evolved to current events. Only one answer comes to my mind: political correctness. His fellows recognized him for the threat he might become, but his superiors were constrained by political correctness and the impact it might have on their own careers.

I have a guess though. It appeared from the mini market tapes and the info the store clerk passed on that the guy was a devout muslim and dreaded being deployed where he would have to kill fellow muslims. I think he just fuckin snapped. I heard something about he was already "in custody" when this went down. Maybe he heard other soldiers being assholes about him being a muslim and he got irritated and somebody called the cops and he broke free and in the midst of a bunch of yahoos ridiculing him as he was being arrested he just went bonkers. Just like those high school shootings...the ones that usually get killed were the bullies that pushed some dweeb to the breaking point.

Guess he was okay with killing fellow Americans tho? Pathetic.
