NYPD Launches Harvey Weinstein Investigation

...The NYPD released the following statement: “Based on information referenced in published news reports the NYPD is conducting a review to determine if there are any additional complaints relating to the Harvey Weinstein matter. No filed complaints have been identified as of this time and as always, the NYPD encourages anyone who may have information pertaining to this matter to call the CrimeStoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.”

This follows several bombshell reports, starting with one in the New York Times on Oct. 5, which detailed decades of sexual harassment allegations. The situation escalated when the New Yorker published an expose on Tuesday in which alleged three accounts of sexual assault.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s office had previously investigated Weinstein in 2015 after Ambra Battilana Gutierrez went public with claims that the mogul had touched her breasts and put his hand up her skirt without her consent. The investigation went so far as to implement a sting operation that caught Weinstein on tape confessing to groping. The audio was not made public until it was obtained and published by the New Yorker. Manhattan District Attorney, Cyrus Vance, Jr. ultimately decided not to press charges, which a police source told the New Yorker was a mistake.

The New Yorker story included an allegation that Weinstein forced actress Lucia Stoller to perform oral sex on him at his Tribeca office in 2004. Under New York law, that allegation, if true, would be a criminal sexual act in the first degree, which does not have a statute of limitations. Such a crime would be a Class B felony, punishable by a term of 5 to 25 years in prison.

Two major Hollywood actors 'helped kill 2004 story' on Harvey Weinstein's sexual misconduct

Somehow, I doubt a Film Actors Guild member like Matt Damon can kill this investigation.

And still...the convenient ignoring by the masses of what CHILD ACTORS have been saying long before this latest brouhaha.

Ding ding ding. Here is the answer, right there in black and white:

It also included the fact that Mr. Weinstein paid settlements to keep women from talking.

Which they took. Right? Right. And stayed silent for him to continue what he was doing and they had a nice fat bank account along with leading parts.

If he has done even half the abuses he is accused of, he was bound to face justice somehow.

The worst element in all of this to me is the power tripping, authority this guy had over actresses. He can make or break careers and used this to exploit others.

He is innocent until proven guilty, though with him admitting himself into "rehab" and making excuses for is lewd behavior its obvious that he's no Saint. Even if the NYPD go after him, I don't know how much can be proven. Maybe the groping of the one actress in The New Yorker video, maybe a few other incidents with witnesses, but these cases are not easy. I hope they entertain the rape cases first, as that is more paramount to some of the other creepy stuff he is accused of.

Lost his wife and his business. Not to mention his reputation. Others will also be more cautious with how they treat women in the future.

It's also worth noting that Harvey Weinstein's contract with his own company allowed for sexual harassment:

Lawyer who threatened defamation suit against New York Times leaves Weinstein defense: source

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Attorney Charles Harder has withdrawn from the legal team of Harvey Weinstein after previously threatening to sue the New York Times over its reports that the movie producer had been the target of sexual harassment complaints, said a source familiar with the matter on Sunday.

The New York Times reported on Oct. 5 that Weinstein, 65, had reached eight previously undisclosed settlements with women who accused him of sexual harassment and unwanted physical contact. The New Yorker magazine then reported on Oct. 10 that 13 women claimed Weinstein sexually harassed or assaulted them.

Reuters has been unable to independently confirm any of the allegations. Weinstein has denied having non-consensual sex with anyone.

When the New York Times report that included claims spanning over 30 years was published, Weinstein released an initial statement to the paper obtained by Reuters apologizing for his behavior. Harder subsequently put out a statement saying the newspaper’s story was defamatory because it relied on “mostly hearsay accounts and a faulty report.”

The source confirmed Harder had withdrawn from representing Weinstein on Tuesday but did not give further details.

A representative for Weinstein, Sallie Hofmeister, did not immediately respond to a request for comment....

New York attorney general launches probe of Weinstein Co.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced a civil rights investigation on Monday into The Weinstein Co. following sexual harassment and assault allegations against its co-founder, Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

As part of the investigation, the prosecutor's office issued a subpoena seeking company records on harassment complaints and legal settlements to determine whether any civil rights and anti-discrimination laws were broken.

"No New Yorker should be forced to walk into a workplace ruled by sexual intimidation, harassment or fear," said Schneiderman, a Democrat. "If sexual harassment or discrimination is pervasive at a company, we want to know."

The New York City-based company fired Weinstein on Oct. 8 after The New York Times and The New Yorker exposed allegations of sexual assault and harassment spanning decades.

More than three dozen women, including Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie, have publicly accused the entertainment mogul of abuse. Weinstein has denied allegations of nonconsensual sex.

A woman who answered the phone in The Weinstein Co.'s media relations office said the company had no comment on the subpoena or news of the investigation.

Police in Los Angeles, New York City and London are also investigating Harvey Weinstein over allegations of sex abuse in those cities.

The Oscar winner was expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the Producers Guild of America has started the process of expelling him.

The allegations have prompted calls in Albany to use the power of the state to crack down on harassment. Democratic Assemblywoman Nily Rozic of Queens proposed legislation that would make designers, photographers, retailers and others liable for harassment experienced by models....
