Mowing a grassy knoll....
Stupid question?

What exactly are the protesters trying to accomplish in NYC next week? What are they "protesting" and why do they think their "civil disobedience" is going to mean anything? I don't get it.........

If you're protesting the war, then it's an anti-war protest. But what is an anti republican protest? :dunno:

its an anti-bush protest.

I've gotta know, why is Bush so hated?

I think some protestors will protest anything and anyone. Kerry,Bush..it doesn't matter. I did see a story on Fox and read some on the net about a group of violent protestors called the "weathermen". They caused a lot of turmoil years ago and Fox says a lot of them are getting out of jail about now and the group may be or is planning on protesting the Republican Convention. They have been known to blow things up. This tells a little more about them.

Perhaps many see the republicans as the war party?

Perhaps because many people do not like the war and see bush as the biggest supporter of the war? You do not have to agree with the protestors to understand their reasoning. it is pretty simple to follow.

So the idea is to protest that the GOP is nominating Bush? I guess they want another candidate?

I would love to see a different candidate than Bush coming out of the GOP. I am sure I am not alone. Many republicans are very disappointed with Bush and his liberal policies.

You just need to understand liberals better. They are not rational thinking people. They are emotion-based, not rational thinking-based.

The more disturbance they make, the more the liberal media will focus on them instead of the convention. It's all about them anyway, you gotta realize.

They are like children who cover their ears and scream because they don't want to hear something.

The liberals have never been into calm, measured debate unless they control the debate. When others have the podium and speak about ideas other than their own, they start to scream foul. They are so self-centered that they cannot fathom another person having another opinion different than theirs. That is heresy to them. (And their leaders know better than to allow truth to be broadcasted unhampered)

Bush-hating is just a way for them to focus their various hatreds into one big howl. Bush represents the American way. Liberals hate that.

Convention-bashing is just another form of suppressing free speech. Our free speech, not theirs, of course. Heaven forbid that the Republicans should be in the spotlight all by themselves presenting their ideas to the nation. Mustn't have that.

You must remember free speech only applies to muckraking moonbats screaming in the streets or revolting reporters spewing rhetoric in the media. Any opposition to THEIR ideology must be thoroughly squelched. Truth has no say and opposing views have no say - if they can help it. This is how totalitarians (and self-centered children) operate. Heaven forbid that they should ever listen quietly or discuss rationally another viewpoint.

The Weathermen were a violent offshoot of the SDS, Students for a Democratic Society I believe. Tom Hayden was affiliated with the Weathermen. Tried to break in to Dow Chemical, campus violence that sort of thing. Think eco-terrorists, but against 'the establishment'.

Best explanation of the moonbats I've seen!

I don't think that was about 'liberals' rather the far left moveon types. The ones threatening to throw maltov cocktails and such.

If you don't believe it, DK, (and not to change the subject but for an example) take a real honest look at the whole Swift Boat issue with a critical eye. A rational claim was made by over 200 vets backed up by eyewitnesses and facts. However, you see no rational answer from the liberals. All you see is emotional response and an attempt to silence the vets by using lawyers to threaten TV outlets in 19 states. Why can't Kerry just calmly answer the charges or sign Form 180 and let the truth be revealed? In this example, liberals are operating exactly how I ealier described.

Of course, when I say liberals, I do not mean those of the traditional kind that ran the Democrat party in the past. (at least many of them) There are a few existing today as well. Zell Miller for example who I believe will be speaking at the Republican convention.

There is a HUGE difference between liberals and Democrats. Democrats I have no issue with. They want things the way they want them because that is what is best for them. My father was a Democrat that was on disability, so of course, the Democrats were the better party for him.

Liberals are just as explained: irrational, emotional, and gutless.

They are not the poor working class that made up the Democratic party of the past, or even the blue-collar workers that work for Unions and therefore, like a more "socialistic" system.

Liberals are what THEY (liberals) consider the 'elites' of the nation. They irrationally believe that only they, with their higher-educations, can know what is BEST for YOU.

See, they just use the Democrats to get what they want accomplished accomplished. They need somebody and the working class, poor, unable and minorities are easy to use in their quest.

The Liberals of today, in my book, are NOT true Democrats.

Free, my take is just the opposit, but I would guess we are speaking of the same animal. In my case, I would define 'liberal' as one who has thought through the issues and wants to try a 'new approach' to an old problem. In this case, FDR was truly a 'liberal', but so was Ronald Reagan. A democrat on the other hand, is for the 'party' gaining power. I will say this also applies to someone who would back a 'republican' just because of party. I find more 'liberals' in the GOP today, than in the Democratic Party. While we 'Republicans' have a problem with 'right wing extremists' they seem fewer in number and influence than the 'base' of the DNC made up of Michael Moore afficiandos, Communist Party members, and ecoterrorists.
