Another ACA CO OP closing.

**********************************+

The nation’s biggest nonprofit health insurer spawned by the Affordable Care Act has been ordered to shut down as it reels toward insolvency, disrupting coverage for more than 200,000 New York state residents and becoming the fourth such co-op to collapse in recent months.

The action Friday to force Health Republic Insurance of New York out of business was a coordinated maneuver by state regulators and by federal health officials, who have been trying to nurture fledgling co-ops while dealing with the reality that most are hemorrhaging red ink.

An "I told you so" moment.

Meh.

Health Republic spokesman Michael Fagan...emphasized that, by beginning the shutdown now, they’re giving members ample opportunity to switch to a different plan during the three-month ACA open-enrollment season that begins nationwide on Nov. 1.

The co-op’s individual health plans will end in December. The ending time for small-business health plans will vary.

Not hard to believe at all. When it opened it was reeling toward insolvency, which is why Pelosi told the Republicans they could read the 2,000 page bill after it was approved.

^Liar.

You all seem to think this means the people who got insurance through the co-op will be denied insurance forever and ever.

You'd be wrong.

Who said that? And just an aside as to the fraud that is the ACA.

High deductibles are more common in exchanges than on employer plans.

Modern Healthcare 9/25/2015.

And then we have the 40% Cadillac tax the fed is going to slap on the employer plan's between 2018 and 2023. Costing employees about 80 billion dollars.

More to the point, do you understand how the exchanges work?

From your posts, I'm guessing you're either still living with your parents, or you have health insurance through Daddy Employer. Any reality outside that safe little bubble is a mystery to you. But I'd be happy to explain.

Because employer plans are group plans. You do understand that, don't you?
Do you understand that the poor and retired can't afford high deductibles?

Do you understand that there are entities called Medicaid and Medicare?
So... Everyone is just supposed to settle for second rate Medicare and Medcaid coverage?

You mentioned the poor and the retired. No need to hyperbolize.

Guess which group of people the ACA screws most with things like "Cadillac tax"?

Guess what hospitals get penalized the most by Medicare?

Why do you hate the middle class?

What I hate is seeing people buying into something that does not deliver what it promises. Statistically there's no evidence that buying a higher-priced insurance plan results in better medical care.

And it's funny watching you try to change the subject and, failing that, lapsing into cliché.

Gloat all you want about the co-ops (IMO, they were initiated too soon), but you and your Congresscritters are not going to bring down the PPACA, no matter how many taxpayer dollars you spend trying.
