The buzz continues for the upcoming NY23 Congressional Election.

Will Hoffman actually win? If so, it would be one of the most remarkable election upsets in some time...

What a difference two weeks can make. Toward the end of an Oct. 14 conference call organized by David Keene of the American Conservative Union, congressional candidate Doug Hoffman plaintively asked, "Does anybody know how to get Glenn Beck interested in this?"

Monday afternoon, Hoffman was interviewed on Beck's popular Fox News program, evidence of the surging momentum the Conservative Party candidate has experienced in the three-way special election campaign in update New York's 23rd District.

...The complete list of Hoffman endorsers is a long one, and seems to include nearly every Republican except Newt Gingrich and Dede Scozzafava, the later of whom is Hoffman's opponent, and the former her only prominent supporter. According to the two most recent polls, the liberal Republican Scozzafava is now in third place, while Hoffman has pulled ahead of Democrat Bill Owens.

Less than a dozen conservative bloggers were on the Oct. 14 ACU conference call, but within days, the Hoffman campaign had suddenly "gone viral," as Internet gurus say. The fact that Palin's endorsement was announced on her Facebook page shows just how conservatives have adopted Web 2.0 technology -- and the staggering $116,000 in PayPal contributions generated that day demonstrates what a powerful tool online fundraising can be.

It actually is a very interesting race in a pretty boring election cycle. It will say alot about the influence of Palin or whether she screwed over her own party and forced the election of a Democrat in a solid republican district.

Tune in next week to find the answer to these and other important questions

I hope so. I know i'm rooting for him. The Republican Party really is a huge disappointment at this point. How can they keep putting frauds like Arlen Specter and Lindsey Graham in powerful leadership positions? They're a rudderless ship at this point. It's time to clean house. Get rid of all the phony Neo-Con types and bring more real Conservatives into the Party. Newt Gingrich is a brilliant man but i just don't understand how he can support Scozzafava. The last thing the Republican Party needs is more phony wishy-washy types. So go get em Mr. Hoffman! Good luck!

This election is a test case, we will see if people want fiscal responsibility or more of the two party pablum.

Unfortunately it now looks pretty good for the Democrat in this election. The Republicans have once again shot themselves in the foot. Instead of running a real Conservative in the first place, they decide to run an Arlen Specter/Lindsey Graham clone in Scozzafava. Now it looks like the Democrat has a real good chance of taking this seat. Oh well, maybe more Republican losses will actually force them to make the right changes.

You may also look at it as a referendum if a Conservative republican can win in the Northeast. As of now, they are nearly extinct in the region. If they cannot take this historically republican district, the conservatives will be restricted to the southern and bible belt regions.

Not a good base to build your party on

Hoffman will win and Obama will be denied the Booby Prize...

If Hoffman wins it will be a stunning political event.

The libs from the White House on down will attempt to spin it otherwise, but you take this race and the Virginia race - if both go Republican, that is a telling sign for things to come in 2010...

It was already obvious online fundraising is a powerful tool. I give you Dean 2004 and Obama 2008 as case studies.

Yes, the opposition eking out a victory in a district they won by thirty points in the last election and winning the governorship in a state they're traditionally strong in is really going to strike fear into the White House...

Virginia has not voted for a Republican governor in just over 10 years.

That appears to be changing this year.

I don't see what there is to spin. This is an internal power struggle for the republicans. This district has always gone republican, so a republican or conservative winning does not reflect a major loss for the Dems.
But if they split their vote, and a Dem wins....it will be a major embarassment for the republicans
If you think this embarasses Obama, you have much to learn. Obama pulled republican Congressman McHugh to be his Secretary of the Army. If McHughs district turns around and elects a Democrat it will be a major coup for Obama

It is the difference between a republican winning and a Conservative winning.

The implications within the party power structure could be substantial.

Then add the Virginia election, and you have the makings of true political momentum heading into 2010.

To win a war one must first win battles, and these are important battles.

And the war is finally being waged in earnest...

The Republican vote is going to be split. Do you think New Yorkers even if they are Republican are going to put that much weight into the opinions of people like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin? Neither of which are that much of actual Conservatives.

So the Democrat candidate will win, and the Republicans will blame each other for the loss. They may win in Virginia with their fucked up candidate but if only because the Democrat candidate is even more fucked up.

Republicans should of had NJ in the bag, they were up by 15 points in the polls at one point. That was BEFORE Chris "I am above the law" Christie was put into the spotlight.

I agree it is a battle for the soul of the republican party. A Conservative uprising will push the republican party further to the right. The Democrats are geared up to fight the right wing talking points. They would prefer more conservative republicans to moderate republicans who can erode the Democratic base

Moderate Republicans are seen as "evil" to many in the party. Let them push the people out of the party while calling them "RINOs." All the GOP further does is leave themselves only with their base to work with. And that base continues to shrink.

Election 2009 is almost upon us!

Then we prepare for 2010... :)

Its going to be fun Mr Sinatra

Alot is going to happen between now and next November. What we see as the big issues now may not be so big a year from now
