Obama official made 'hundreds of unmasking requests,' GOP chairman says

“[T]his Committee has learned that one official, whose position has no apparent intelligence-related function, made hundreds of unmasking requests during the final year of the Obama Administration,” he wrote to Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats.

Only one request, Nunes wrote, “offered a justification that was not boilerplate and articulated why” the identity was needed for official duties.

Three of the nation’s intelligence agencies received subpoenas in May explicitly naming three top Obama administration officials: Former CIA director John Brennan, former national security adviser Susan Rice, and former U.N. ambassador Samantha Power.

Nunes’ letter appears to make reference to Power as the official who made “hundreds” of requests.

wonder what will come of this?
Wonder if this is why the committee delayed rices testimony to get Power in there?

What does my comment have to do with that? Nunes undermined his fellow committee members and broke the rules of the intelligence committee when he ran to Trump to share information. He is a pretentious douche, who's plan back fired and got him kicked off being head of the committee, now he is trying to double down with Trump. This shit is going to turn out disastrous for him and he deserves every bit of it. You don't even understand that consequences of his actions.

...let me rephrase. Nunes actions got him recused from being Chair of the intelligence committee looking into the Russian case.

So? No law was broken.

And the report deflects nothing on Trump.

"The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee is accusing top political aides of President Obama of making hundreds of requests during the 2016 presidential race to unmask the names of Americans in intelligence reports, including Trump transition officials.

Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), in a letter to Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, said the requests were made without specific justifications on why the information was needed.

“We have found evidence that current and former government officials had easy access to U.S. person information and that it is possible that they used this information to achieve partisan political purposes, including the selective, anonymous leaking of such information"

"In Thursday’s letter, Nunes said the total requests for Americans’ names by Obama political aides numbered in the hundreds during Obama’s last year in office and often lacked a specific intelligence community justification. He called the lack of proper justifications a “serious deficiency.”

“The committee has learned that one official, whose position had no apparent intelligence related function, made hundreds of unmasking requests during the final year of the Obama administration,” Nunes wrote. “Of those requests, only one offered a justification that was not boilerplate.”

He can't be trusted by anyone doing an investigation if it deals with Trump or anyone favorable to Trump... because he can't be impartial and do his job.

Comey said Trump's not under investigation..

Nunes wasn't going to go quietly into this good night. Powers is a biggie to be questioned. What the hell was the UN Ambassador unmasking hundreds of names?

“The committee has learned that one official, whose position had no apparent intelligence related function, made hundreds of unmasking requests during the final year of the Obama administration,” Nunes wrote. “Of those requests, only one offered a justification that was not boilerplate.”

Sources familiar with the Nunes letter identified the official as then-U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power.
