NRA shuts down Facebook page

the funniest thing here is everone is just totally ignoring truthmatters

Just heard that Frank Lunz, R pollster, says 78% of NRA members support background checks and an end to high capacity clips and military type assault rifles.
Why do 78% of NRA members hate our freedoms????

Why do libs make moronic statements?

Automatic rifles and pistols -- assault weapons -- have been heavily-restricted for decades. Semi-auto rifles and pistols are not assault weapons, they are assault-style weapons if they meet certain visual criteria, like rifles having a front pistol grip, barrel shroud, and flash suppressor. Personally, I have no problem with restricting high capacity magazines, however they will always be available if folks really want them.

The bottom line is that this is a mental health issue, and an issue of requiring some armed guards and/or other school employees who are trained and willing to carry a gun to do so, if they wish (many ex-military in schools already).

But the very best way to avoid more of these tragedies is by the community keeping watch over their schoolmates and neighbors, and taking seriously any threats or very odd behavior they note. Then having the authorities interviewing these folks to assess their condition, and treat and/or hold them until they're deemed safe.

The main weapon of mass destruction is the deranged perp, not the hardware they use.

:lol:Domestic terrorism? You really believe that? Then why don't you tell your nitwit leader to go down and protect our boarders from terrorist getting in. Oh, and you better make sure they do it using guns and not knives.
Ask the survivors of Sandy Point whether they were terrorized or not.

:eusa_clap:Pointing a gun at a child and shooting is terrorist enough. You can call it whatever you want but the more it happens the more it becomes terrorist attacks.

so what was the 20 year old's goal? religious or political? or maybe an ideological goal.
That is terrorism
Murder which is what he did, is killing with malice.
The two are very different.
The people are coming out in droves for the candlelight vigils and sermons.
None of them are hiding in terror. They are horrified and are in disbelief, they are in great sorrow and grief, but they are not holed up hiding in their homes in terror.

Of course the NRA is at fault. This shooting has nothing at all to do with the second amendment and everything to do with domestic terrorism. Its incumbent on the NRA to admit that and stand up for our second amendment rights. Instead, they support the terrorists and believe the terrorists have the same rights as the average citizen.

And, yes, they should have been right out in front with words of sympathy. So should the Repubs. But, all we've gotten from most of them is cold silence. Pretend they care if you want but there really is no doubt that money is changing hands and lines are being drawn - in favor of domestic terrorism.

I think they will start making their moves soon after seeing who their real friends were.

What a bunch of pussies.

NRA fades to black on social media after Conn. shooting

The NRA has been treading lightly since the Sandy Hook tragedy.

The National Rifle Association took down its Facebook page the day of the bloody shooting spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School -- one day after the NRA promoted a milestone of 1.7 million "likes."

The NRA's last Twitter update about "10 Days of NRA Giveaways" was posted Friday morning. The first 911 calls went out from Connecticut school at around 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The NRA did not immediately respond to a call for comment.

The 4.3 million-member NRA's strong pro-gun position has been under siege since the shootings that left 28 people dead, including 20 children and the shooter, Adam Lanza.

Nancy Lanza, 54, was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds at her home. Adam Lanza, 20, fatally shot himself at the elementary school with a handgun.

Connecticut State Police Lt. Paul Vance said Lanza was armed with an assault rifle and two semiautomatic pistols, which were registered to and legally owned by his mother.

Removing a Facebook page is an unusual step for an organization, though the NRA can bring the page back within 30 days without losing any data, archived posts or page "likes."

Josh Constine, a writer for Techcrunch, theorizes that the NRA took down its Facebook page because "pro- and anti-gun citizens likely would have gone to war on its wall," adding that "discussions could have taken an ugly turn, with those on either side leaving inappropriate posts and comments."

The NRA also canceled a "Tweet & Greet" with country musician Colt Ford on Twitter Friday afternoon but didn't explain why, the New York Daily News reports.

In July, an NRA Twitter account tweeted, "Good morning, shooters. Weekend plans? Happy Friday!" after the movie theater shooting spree in Aurora, Colo., that left 12 people dead and dozens wounded. The NRA said the tweeter had not heard about the shooting.

to bad they did not want to exploit the tragedy like the nutter left...

i would have loved have seen the looney lefts rantings.

The NRA announced today that they will have a major announcement soon. They also said in a statement that they would be willing to make major contributions, whatever that means.

here it is:

The National Rifle Association has put out a statement saying it is "prepared to offer meaningful contributions" to prevent more violence like that which occurred in Newtown, Conn., last week. The organization said it will hold a news conference in the Washington, D.C., area on Friday.

Additionally, the organization broke its silence on social media, and put its Facebook page back up Tuesday afternoon, timed to the statement's release. The page had been down for several days following the shooting. The NRA also posted a Tweet Tuesday for the first time since Friday, linking to the statement.

The statement reads:

"The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.

"Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

"The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

"The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

"Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time."

The NRA will probably rehash the same old tired gun rhetoric

However, if they have any sense they will see the writing on the wall. Gun violence is a problem and denial is not going to work

Whether they like it or not, the Assault Weapons ban will come up for a vote in January. This will be a watershed moment for the NRA. They can use their usual political tactics to bully Congress or they can help craft meaningful legislation that will help tone down the violence

Congress is in a tough spot. America is furious. Vote against the bill and it becomes part of your permanent record. From that point onward, every time an assault rifle is used in a mass attack....it is on your head

Voting against assault weapons is no longer the politically correct thing to do

The thing about this is the NRA has many members who are parents and this tragedy has to have bothered them as well. So maybe this time they will be useful to the debate and work with politicians to get something done. I know this is wishful thinking but how many more tragedies like this do we need before something meaningful is done?

Hopefully the NRA isn't as stupid as the people who call for gun control are. Blaming the lack of gun control for this killing is about as stupid as it gets.

Not at all surprising the NRA took their page down. I expect leftists were getting all "tolerant" and "civil" on it.

You know, like they do here.

Yep, the shameless, juvenile leftists typically shit on FB and twitter pages immediately after events like this, so it's smart to deactivate the NRA FB account until "progressives" get their psych medications in order.

Immediately after the Tucson shooting they jumped on Twitter posting vile death threats to Sarah Palin, over the utterly insane notion that a bullseye on one of her campaign maps was the cause of the shooting.

Twitter death threats to Sarah Palin
Progressives want to punish their political enemies, not criminals.

If the NRA is smart they will offer up fixes that their members support and show that they are not a monolythic power. Background checks are an obvious concession. We don't want criminals or the insane to purchase firearms. Ending the gunshow loophole is also something they can put on the table

I expect the NRA to fight against a ban on assault weapons but they can concede on high capacity magazines

The NRA is currently in a no-win position. They apparently decided that taking the heat from running off and hiding was the better damage control strategy.
