Now The Word "Orient" Is Racist And Politically Incorrect

:laugh: My mother-in-law did something similar, only it was white teeth and really dark skin.

You ever wonder if we will be like that when we grow old? A little "Oh, that's just granny" immunity for being tactless and crazy could be fun. :D

Let's see:

Colored => Negro => Black => African-American

Chinamen => Oriental => Asian => ?

The way I see it, Asian will also be considered offensive in about 5 years.

Where are we with Middle Eastern? Is that offensive yet?

Of course for contrast, there's the perenially popular and never questioned:
White => white => white => white.

I am not sure why ethnic terms are ok, then all of a sudden they're not, but I guess we need to continually re-orient ourselves to the correct terminology. ;)

That's it then. From this day forth, I want to be known as a Beige-American.

That's just dumb. Is being called an American racist unkind?

The Orient historically refers to a geographic location, and "Oriental," people from that geographic location.

A whole lot of whining about NOTHING.

I'm glad somebody noticed that. The club called their party or dance, whatever it was, "Midwinter 2006: A Tour of the Orient". There was nothing about calling anyone an Oriental.

If we can't call the Orient the Orient, are we still allowed to call Mexico Mexico? Can Africa still be Africa, or do we have to call it Under Europe or something?
