Defending Bush's term requires enough spin to power a medium-sized American city. What an absolute freakin' wasteland he left behind: the worst economy since the Great Depression (probably worse in the long run) and not one, but two wasteful, unwinnable (in the long run) wars. There's no way to objectively rate the performance of a President who has to clean up a disaster of such historic proportions.

If he had been taking over anything resembling a "normal" situation, Obama may have been the best ever or the worst ever. Absolutely no way to know. That's nothing more than an exercise in tedious, simplistic partisanship. But the Republican partisans' attempt to paint the macro environment he inherited as "just another recession", and some kind of normal international situation is either blatantly dishonest or abjectly ignorant.

Bush did not inherit a major, historic, multi-dimensional disaster, but he left us one. Spin that.

Except the Congress will probably go GOP so not much of an agenda to pass. Obama has already proven himself unable to work with the opposition, unlike say Bush or Clinton.

The GOP can blame itself as it can blame a hostile press that has cowed some of the better candidates. For whatever reason it cannot present a real conservative candidate who can articulate his positions well.
