NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A special area for people who want to pray will be set aside at Giants Stadium, where several Muslim fans were detained and questioned by the FBI in September, the stadium operator said Tuesday.

Sohail Mohammed, lawyer for the Totowa-based American Muslim Union, met Sunday with officials from the sports complex, private vendors and the FBI to educate them about the cultural and religious practices of Islam.

George Zoffinger, president of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, said he agreed to designate areas to pray at the football stadium and the nearby Continental Airlines Arena.

"We took it seriously. We did not like the connotation that we were profiling. We weren't,'' he said.

The FBI said it detained five Muslim men Sept. 19 because they were in a sensitive area near the stadium's main air intake duct.

The men said they had been praying, and said they believed they had been singled out because of their faith.

Security was extra tight that night because former President Bush was on hand as part of a fundraising campaign for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

As long as 'all can enter' and pray, don't see a problem. I hope there are lots of nursing mothers, girls with cropped tops and low-risers, and gay guys that feel the urge to pray at those same times. ;)

Unless the Giants want to give all their own prayer space, one never knows when the urge will come on, they cannot make it 'Muslim only.'

Every business, service provider should. Yeah, right. If you want to pray-do so silently, otherwise stay home. My guess is the Muslims would not want to share with infidels, especially women.

Ya know, I wouldn't actually have a problem with a Muslim near me at a game laying down his prayer rug and praying right there in the stands, just so long as he stayed in his seat. However, I do agree that a sort of "private area" is a good idea.

If they need a private area they shouldn’t be in public place expecting the public to accomodate them, should they? They can stay home or go to a mosque. This is BS.

How many religions are there? Should we make "Private" areas for them ALL?
That is what this may come to, ya know? And then we move on to seating, Jews here, Christains there, wickins here etc...

Um...the private area is for all of them. Its for anyone who choses to use it. not just muslims.

Doesn't really address that in the article-looks like it's for the Muslims.

It shouldn't be to hard to establish who this is for. Anyone here with friends or family in that area?? Next time they're at the stadium just to into the prayer area.

That was my hope, lots of nursing mothers, teen girls with short tops/low rise jeans, perhaps some Orthodox Jews also! Police better be real close by.

The YMCA here had complaints about the after school program for kids making Christmas Angels. The YMCA decided to remove the traditional Christmas symbol from their "holiday arts&crafts" because one non-Christian parent complained. They complied, but had so much backlash, they reneged. The angles will be back on Monday!

Does anyone know what YMCA stands for?

I actually hate this crap. I don't have a problem with prayerful Muslims, Buddhists, whatever, so long as they stay in their own countries and keep their bombs and their caterwauling to themselves. Once I was trying to pick a jury and a Muslim woman dropped for her prayers, waving her Muslim ass in everyone's face because Mecca was in the back. I wanted to kick it. It wasn't "prayer." It was A) a way to say "F you" to America or B) a way to get out of jury service. Either way. Jesus, give us our country back. You know, the one where we used to be able to pray to you without a lawsuit? Thank you. That's my prayer area.
