tinydancer , OP knows that very well, he's just a paid Ukrainian troll.

Crimea was autonomous within the Ukraine but of course after the coup they voted to return to Mother Russia for protection from Kiev.
" after the coup they voted to return to Mother Russia "

yes, I'm sure that was perfectly legit. Nothing says "free, fair election" like a foreign military controlling it.

You know nothing of Crimea do you? After the violent coup in Kiev, the citizens and their politicians knew damn well their autonomy would be wiped out. Their Russian language would be banned and they would be treated like second class citizens if not worse since they were Ethnic Russians and had been Russian until Khruschev one day decided to give Crimea to the Ukraine during the USSR days.

Yeah but the west was ok with throwing out a democratically elected prez because he was pro Russian. That's was ok. But Crimea wanting to bail is bad!

In June 2014, a Gallup poll with the Broadcasting Board of Governors asked Crimeans if the results in the March 16, 2014 referendum to secede reflected the views of the people. A total of 82.8% of Crimeans said yes. When broken down by ethnicity, 93.6% of ethnic Russians said they believed the vote to secede was legitimate, while 68.4% of Ukrainians felt so. Moreover, when asked if joining Russia will ultimately make life better for them and their family, 73.9% said yes while 5.5% said no.

In February 2015, a poll by German polling firm GfK revealed that attitudes have not changed. When asked “Do you endorse Russia’s annexation of Crimea?”, a total of 82% of the respondents answered “yes, definitely,” and another 11% answered “yes, for the most part.” Only 2% said they didn't know, and another 2% said no. Three percent did not specify their position.

I was and always will be against the coup. I have no idea what on earth came over Obama/Harper/Cameron to think that this action would end well.

hello Mars (Olgino troll) , new back to the international law : United Nations General Assembly Resolution 68/262
"
United Nations General Assembly Resolution 68/262 was adopted on March 27, 2014 by the sixty-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly in response to the Russian annexation of Crimea and entitled "Territorial integrity of Ukraine"....

the General Assembly's commitment to the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and underscored the invalidity of the 2014 Crimean referendum.

The resolution was introduced by Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine.[1] The adoption of the resolution was preceded by the unsuccessful attempts of the United Nations Security Council, which convened seven sessions to address the Crimean crisis, only to face a Russian veto...."

Why does that matter?
why does it matter if the election was legit or not? Why are you asking me? you used its legitimacy as support for your point. Maybe you should be asking yourself that.

So fucking what? The Crimeans wanted to return to being a Russian territory. Their choice. Fuck the UN and all the western nations that backed the coup.

My question related to a foreign poster's apparent effort to dominate the board with Russian intrigue that nobody really cares about. If you have a problem with the legitimacy of last year's election it's your problem.

"their russian language"

That's not their native language...and it's hard to look at that vote as legitimate. I think Crimea is going to find life ain't so great with Russia.

Well, you know the real Crimeans were deported to Siberia by the Russians to make room for the Russian colonist who you now call the "Crimeans".
