Norquist says he'll go after pledge-breakers

Who the fuck elected Grover for any position anyway and why are the GOP scared shitless of him?

They've been in his hip pocket for quite a few years now so, yeah, you ask good questions.

Why?

He never ran for office, never held office but the GObP/pubpots denied the oath they took to serve the United States in favor of an oath to serve him.

Some are now saying they'll go back on their oath to him but IN FACT, the only ones who really will are those who are up for re-election.

Then, after they get elected to the taxpayer trough again, they will be right back on their knees to gud ole Grover.

Here's a better idea.

Instead of cutting a deal that increases some taxes, the Democrats tell the Norquist Republicans to take a hike and let the Bush tax cuts expire, causing taxes to increase even more than they would have had they cut a deal.

Then, the Democrats can come back a few months later and propose their own set of tax cuts and see if the Republicans block the new package of tax cuts pass because they don't include tax cuts for the wealthy.

there is talk that such a scenario is very much a possibility. the flip side is that repub lawmakers wouldn't have to vote for tax increases so would be off the hook.

All true.

A suspicious person might infer the ‘fiscal cliff’ really isn’t as ‘scary’ to lawmakers as made out to be.

Yeah, I've heard the same thing too. Political theatre can be so stupid sometimes.

because ultimately it isn't.... it would be a temporary thing. they just couldn't allow it to go on long.

but my guess is that the legislation to fix things would be ready to go on january 1st...

who the fuck is Buffet? who the hell does he think he is?

SNIP:

The Buffett Rule is a tax plan proposed by President Barack Obama in 2011.[1] The tax plan would apply a minimum tax rate of 30 percent on individuals making more than a million dollars a year.[2][3] According to a White House official, the new tax rate would impact 0.3 percent of taxpayers.[1]

Distribution of average tax rates including individual income tax and employee payroll tax.
The Buffett Rule is named after American investor Warren Buffett, who publicly stated in early 2011 that he disagreed with rich people, like himself, paying less in federal taxes, as a portion of income, than the middle class, and voiced support for increased income taxes on the wealthy.[4] The rule would implement a higher minimum tax rate for taxpayers in the highest income bracket, to ensure that they do not pay a lower percentage of income in taxes than less-affluent Americans.[5] In October 2011, Senate leader Harry Reid (D–Nev.) proposed a 5.6 percent surtax on millionaires to pay for new stimulus provisions, but the change did not go through.[6]

But for sure lets watch you all hyperventilate over Norquist..
hypocrites

At least Norquist pays his taxes.

Doesn't Buffett know it's patriotic to pay taxes?

Funny how you never hear the lefty haters condemn Buffett, huh?

Norquist says he’ll go after pledge-breakers – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs

(CNN) - Anti-tax activist Grover Norquist said Monday that his group, Americans for Tax Reform, would work to unseat Republicans who break their pledge to never vote for higher taxes.

His vow came after prominent GOP lawmakers said over the weekend they would consider breaking the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in order to reach a deal with Democrats and President Barack Obama to avoid tumbling over the fiscal cliff – the combination of sweeping spending cuts and tax increases that would go into effect at the end of the year if negotiators can't reach a deal on reducing the federal debt.

You don't know who he is, yet you think he matters. How odd.

My guess is he thinks he is an American citizen and has the audacity to think elected officials should be accountable to their word.

This may, sadly, be a foreign concept to you, but people should be held accountable for what they do and say.

i dont think thats how he mean't who is Grover, killer..

Did the Republican congressmen that pledged to Norquist, actually sign a pledge, was it signed under oath, was it signed with hand on the Bible, did they kneel when they took the pledge? Can Norquist sue the congressmen for breaking their pledge to him, or will Norquist just see that the congressmen are not reelected again? Did other Republicans take the pledge too, what about Limbaugh or Riley, did they take the pledge? Was the pledge mandatory or voluntary? What did the Congressmen get when they took the pledge? And finally was the pledge to Norquiest in lieu of a pledge to the nation?

Substitute the word "limbaugh" for Grover and you'll see what the underlying problem of the GOP is; the leaders of the party are not in politics.

As we saw on this board, the principles of the GOP electorate are pretty much up for grabs. Romney was about as antithetical to the GOP platform as one could be and still pass for a Republican. Such wrinkles are fine. You'd find non football fans working for the NFL; every pew in every church on Sunday is filled with sinners; and I would imagine that you would find several who voted for Romney were democrats. The problem the GOP has is that such wrinkles--faithless candidates if you will--seldom rise to receive their party's nomination. They are not sure what they stand for.

Grover going after GOP Senators is music to my ears; really. Susan Collins of ME won her last election in 2008 with 60+ percent of the vote. She will almost certainly be targeted by Norquist. When/if she loses, the winner will get nowhere near 60% so that seat is in play. There could be other interesting flips as well. Grover is the one who delivered Christine O'Donnell, Sharon Angle, Mourdoch, and Akin to the electorate and, by decree, the Senate even more convincingly to the Dems.

Norquist is the best friend the DNC could hope for.

I agree, please vote out the most powerful and influential of your own party.
Federal politics against the GOP in 2012 is a lot like playing tennis without a net. You can't lose!

Indeed, and legislation can be written to take effect retroactively.

Who says they're scared of him? We have a fiscal cliff coming up on January 2, 2013 regardless of what Norquist wants. This was set 2 years ago by the gang of 12. 6 democrats and 6 republicans that agreed that if they could not come to an agreement on tax hikes and budget cuts--that Sequestration aka the Fiscal cliff would take place.

Meaning the Bush tax cuts expire--and massive budget cuts take place. In truth--I think it's going to happen. I think they have intended it to happen since 2010--and we're just watching the typical dog and pony show right now.

So unless it's under oath, you can break whatever promises you make?

The people suffer because as a whole our people have lost the desire to have integrity.
