The American people are hearing story after story in the media how the Tea-Party Republicans won the debt ceiling debate, everyone should be in awe of the Tea-Party Republicans because the law just passed lifting the debt ceiling had dramatic federal spending cuts and limits on federal spending over the next ten years. This characterization is a bunch of baloney the major reason this debt ceiling bill has the spending restrictions it has is that to use a common characterization the "rubber has begun to hit the road" when it comes to Federal Spending, the trajectory on federal spending the country was faced with was unaffordable, unfair to future generations of Americans and to high to obtain long-term financing from Treasury security buyers!

It is ridiculous to claim the Tea-Party Republicans look good from this debate. They looked like dangerous extremists, they were prepared to take the country right off the economic cliff into an economic abyss. Some Tea-Party Republicans denied that failing to lift the debt ceiling would cause a government default on Treasury bonds even when almost unanimity amongst experts said it would and common sense clearly indicates it would consider the unmanageable time challenge the Treasury would be faced with in linking incoming revenue to interest and principle payment obligations on Treasuries that would continually becoming do for the foreseeable future. Then you have the Tea-Party Republicans that wanted to see the country go into technical default and not pay 40% of its bills, these Republicans totally ignored the hundreds of thousands of federal and state employees (who get paid with federal dollars) that would be thrown out of work. If truth be told Tea-Party Republicans infuriated a large part of the American people with their behavior during this debate!

Neither did the Progressive Democrats look good in this debate! They essentially kept screaming bloody murder about any cuts to entitlement programs like the majority of members of Congress were going to throw seniors and low-income Americans into the gutter. They were acting like these programs were sacred and anyone talking about making cuts to them was seriously blaspheming was making traitorous talk. The irrefutable facts are that the spending trajectory on entitlement programs especially medicare are unaffordable, that is, the American government won't be able to pay the bills some time in the future so something has to be done. These progressive democrats behavior was disgraceful. There is so many needed cuts to Medicare that don't involve cutting benefits to seniors. Medicare needs to stop paying nursing home more than double their ordinary daily fee when one of their residents returns back to the nursing home from a stay in the hospital which just incentivizes nursing homes to send their residents to the hospital. Medicare needs to competitive bid nation wide for wheel chairs, air tanks, etc. that medicare recipients need and get the best price and save on these expenses!

No political party won in this debt ceiling debate. Though the American voter learned an important lesson that is that he or she has to sift through the candidates during the election cycle and weed out the extremists or America will be faced with alarming situations and gridlock which bodes bad times for America!

I think the GOP won. It wasn't a great victory, but they managed to America hostage again and get their cuts passed. However, Dems gave them plenty of ammo since they were not competent enough to pass a budget...in what? Almost two years?

The GOP successfully got $3 trillion in budget cuts for raising the debt ceiling for another 22 months.

Actually it is 1 trillion cuts coupled with an even greater increase in debt...in other words a net increase in spending.

The winner is the mainstream philosophy of big government that rules both parties.

It is a trillion in cuts, but then there is a going to be a 12 member committee (6 Dems and 6 Reps) to cut another $1-$2 trillion.

I have very little faith in that. Either way we get more debt which means more spending. The cuts will just finance spending. Even if they dont, it works out to only 10 billion in cuts a year for 10 years assuming there is no new spending and the debt ceiling is not raised again. This bill is pathetic.

The draconian cross the board cuts that kick in if the 'Super-Congress' doesn't come to an agreement are exactly what the Tea Party would like to see happen. They have no incentive to negotiate. They'll be absolutely dictatorial - or they'll just let the cuts happen.

Obama and the Dems just postponed a Tea party victory - and nothing more.

1 trillion in cuts over 10 years with most coming from military spending is draconian??
:lol::lol::lol:

This, my friends, is why we are fucked.

Medicare will be insolvent in 2017, and the whiners still want MORE-MORE-MORE...
I want them to confirm who is entitled to the entitlements before paying for their medical care, no more freebies for freeloaders...
